Well there's both issues right now, as the Joneses can spam both field quantity and lime, so limiting fertilizers can only be an improvement. There's also that having bigger land requirements means higher silver upkeep, the grinding of which would take time that could be used to work the fields.

It should be clarified what crop exactly the Joneses are being jerks about. Are we talking tiered grains?

Ah, So you feel the risk and cost of having to claim more tiles to run more fields is enough of a mitigating factor for those who are willing to put in that level of extra work? I'm happy to hear you say that if that is the case as it defines some line and some level where you are willing to accept the lifestyle of the joneses.

Yeah, it's not so much the issue of having to keep up with the Joneses, more that the methods of doing so are patently unfun.

Well, there's issues with the keeping up thing when it comes to humors, but that's a different discussion.

So Potjeh, votes for limiting the abilities of his competitors so a player doesn't feel they must do something unfun simply to keep up.

Vigilance argues that a player willing to subject himself to pain should retain the gain.

This is what I believe makes Salem so unique and so fragile at the same time. So who is right? I would love to see this evolve into a full-blown discussion from more parties than just the first two to highlight the problem and navigate to solutions.

I'd argue that an in-between solution would be the most fitting. For example, make the first 20 limes or so have better effect than they currently do - enabling casuals to still have good fields - while reducing the diminishing returns overall so the more dedicated players can get the goodies even faster. Regardless, I believe that lime should be more effective than it currently is; digging lime is one of the most tedious tasks in-game. Alternatively, lime could be replaced completely with a new fertilizer with greater effects.

May I suggest that the issue with lime digging isn't so much the repetetiveness as it is the fact that it's entirely static? Lime digging is lime digging, wether you're a 10 bile newbie on it's first day or a years old veteran. It's still the same click-wait a second-click, click-wait a few seconds, repeat. It forces constant attention, making it a plain chore.

My suggestion to alleviate this: Add some options to improve on it, at least give us the satisfaction of digging lime better than the other guy.

More lime per boulder based on proficiencies would be great.
Perhaps some way to increase chipping speed beyond the pickaxe?
Perhaps a way to transport more lime at once, a dedicated cart-like option specifically for carrying lime or other stone. Something that holds slightly more than a cart full of chests and might even be less of a pain to load. (Playing tetris with chests is rather tedious.)

As for my petty annoyances.
Lime, as stated above.
Gates + sleds/carts. I've masted the little 180 turn to close them behind me but it still annoys me every single time.
Canoes + deep water. If I can place a canoe somewhere I should be able to get into it without swimming. I'd like to think my character has the brains not to fling his canoe out of range into a lake.

Anyway, my annoyances:
- Lime, but mostly because you have to use alts to get it since local spots get used up quickly
- Crafting with such a small inventory, crafting stations that store ingredients would be a godsend
- Not being able to see what inspirationals I've already used since last level-up

The reduction or simplification of the lime process would be nice. In my career, master lime digger, I have dug around 5,000,000,000 boulders. A player named McShips taught me that hard work would pay off. I think he was always right. Thanks for your time on these processes.
