Boat decay/wear

So I was running around carrying a random boat I found (it appeared to be fairly damaged when I picked it up) and filled it with some logs that I also happened upon.

After 30 min or so of walking, the boat disappeared (presumably from decay) in my hands and the logs that had been inside disappeared entirely.

I don't know if boats are supposed to continue decaying while on land/being carried, but it seems rather bad that the items inside get destroyed when the boats do.

Also, should boats even be liftable when they have stuff in them? Sleds can't be, so if it's intended, why are they different?

You can drag sleds with contents to your place. You can't do that with boats. Therefore they are at least liftable with their contents. Otherwise you would have to unload everything from a boat and carry it one by one, and then a boat, to your base.

True enough. But in HnH, carts weren't liftable even when empty. And boats had a smaller inventory than carts. And carts moved faster on paved surfaces (though I suspect something like that will come eventually).

Can a sled be placed in a boat? Or a boat in a sled for that matter. I no longer have access to one to test since it decayed in my hands .

Either way, you can haul around a sled in your backpack slot while on a boat, move stuff to the sled and carry the boat. The mechanics in HnH didn't really have an easy alternative to carrying a boat with stuff in it - there was no way to easily move your carts from one place to another (rafts were so slow and only useful when you absolutely had to use them for cattle, carts or wagons). Salem does have an alternative - carrying a sled in the backpack slot..

You can't put a sled in a boat or a boat in a sled.

You can put a sled in a boat as long as the sled has nothing on it.
