Sandbox mmos

Postby phoenix » Wed May 28, 2014 4:19 am

I've been looking around atm for some decent games similar to salem with crafting, persistent world and permadeath and not many have come close to offering these things and I thought I should throw together a list for anyone looking around too. If anyone sees something good please share I would love to find a game like salem that has developers pushing to deliver content. I know permadeath scares a lot of developers peddling to carebears that cry when they lose a flower let alone everything, but to me it says true character progression and that I must think about my actions and their consequences . I thought id mention a few that i have been looking at since we aint gonna see a update here until 2015 and that is a big IF still.

H1Z1

Still in development Hell, looks promising with zombies, pvp and crafting. They have an idea floating about that if enough people want a a certain type of ruleset you can vote (once per account per year) to create that server to play on. I'm hoping that means pvp permadeath full loot etc.

Rust
It has permadeath crafting etc but the servers are hosted individually and not permanent and this is why i haven't tried it, besides watching a few videos of people running around naked with a rock killing each other.

Day Z
Have yet to try this but after watching gameplay videos its basically a full loot game not sure about crafting items. I saw nothing about crafting structures so it looks like you basically forage the place for weapons and food while hiding from zombies and killing people you meet. Yes you can kill people and take their stuff and they're dead but i didn't see any character progression so just make another character and start foraging again.

The Repopulation

Looks good graphically has a well thought out crafting path, persistant world, house construction and pvp it looked great until I read
The Hardcore ruleset is tailored towards players who are looking for a more PvP centric experience. Under the normal ruleset the protected areas are safe from non consensual PvP. However, on the hardcore servers the game world offers no safety areas and the only protection you would have is from faction guards or other players. We are still in the process of finalizing the exact mechanics of this ruleset. We currently are discussion a variety of those mechanics in our forums if you or your guild is interested in providing feedback.
:/

Colonies-Online
http://www.colonies-online.com/
Diablo type of graphical display little guy but with guns. It has crafting base building raiding pvp etc but the penalty for death is loss of durability and cash and after watching a raid video where they destroy some guys base while killing the owner every time he popped back up was ok to watch i dont know what to really make of it.

Space Engineers
http://www.spaceengineersgame.com/features.html
This game is sort of a Minecraft in space kinda game where you can build ships and bases, mine asteroids good graphics and looks fun if your into small servers that can be private/public and only hold up to 16 people. If they made a persistent world i could see this being so much fun building massive ships and flying around nuking peoples bases or just ramming into other peoples bases :D.

So yeah that's the ones I have been looking at that held promise if anyone sees better ones or if i misread the features of any please let me know. Just trying to find a new place that holds more promise then log in glut and maybe one day be strong enough to break into a base that has exactly the same items that everyone else has.

You've missed Life is Feudal though it is still in pre-alpha stage.

We just had a thread about this and all the ones on it, though still disappointing, were still better than these.

I think author revealed what he was really after... just wants to cripple and kills others who can't touch him... a lot like killing small animals who can't defend themselves.

This is one sick bastard/*****...

Pray you live in the US... someday soon you'll get caught... you live elsewhere... GD help the rest of you...

I'm after a game like Salem, but with a lot more depth to all the features and where if I have an enemy I can go and kill them and remove them from my worries which isn't that the reason for a lot of people playing this instead of farmville. Not spend 6 months to have a chance of running onto a claim for a few seconds to do a little damage here and there and praying that a lamp post doesn't KO me. If you want to play a game where you deal with people who can harass you for days and even months and you cant even stop them go play some wow etc.

Also its a smart thing to never assume things about people you dont know and then spout them out like the truth because I dont hurt animals I have pets like every other normal person here, hell I respect insects more then some people I've met. If anything here mate you need some serious mental help because you made up a horror story in your head from a post about mmos where I'm a bunny slaying potential serial killer you hope lives in the US a place where the most heinous monsters are rarely caught and only then when the cops catch a lucky break.

I found this, there's not much information out yet though.

http://mmo-play.com/mmo-news/haven-and-hearth-remake

I've lost two games I'd meant to keep an eye on. One allowed players the ability to do whatever they wanted and I'm pretty sure there was free loot but the main focus seemed to be on some kind of reputation system. The clips I saw were mostly first person and a lot of work was going into the graphics, with some very intricate stone carvings around the entrance to an underground city.

The other was set in a valley and the emphasis was on crafting and survival. Essentially players would start off trying to make stone tools and over time discoveries could be made, eventually leading into futuristic technology.

I probably just described two games which could be anything, which is likely why I can't seem to re-find them qq. If anyone knows what I'm talking about though that would be buku.
