Well sorry for making you so butt hurt, but I just have too much personal experience with my past friends turning into lazy flegmatic bums who do nothing but sit at home in their underwear and smoke weed.

Darwoth did a better job of it. Just saying can't someone express their true feelings once in awhile and actually attempt to make a contributive post without getting blasted for it?

This is true of any medical science. You just don't recognize it publicly with physical health because most issues don't exhibit themselves in a behavioral manner. Which does add a note that a lot of mental health issues are starting to get linked with physical health issues such as the Epstein-Barr virus and long term depression. It's pretty damn easy to turn into a hypochondriac if you don't pay attention.

Side note: there are some mental health issues that THC has been associated with to help improve symptoms, but the problem is that it does exaggerate other symptoms or issues, and with about 70% of mental health patients suffering from more than one diagnosis, it really does make this a bad substance to medicate with. There just hasn't been enough clinical research on the matter to create conclusive evidence, though.

I could go on and on about this subject as I've been the subject of the subject for too many years. (Yeah, I'm bat **** crazy.) Don't want to drag it off topic, though.

I've had 2 tangos with the law here in the US, first time was probation, second time was a diversionary program. American prisons are too full to try to put people in, even our violent offenders often get released early to make room for new criminals who's only victim was a bag of Doritos.

the problem with current medical diagnosis is that often people are just going in and getting a script for a condition that exist, but is a side effect of something more severe (someone with undiagnosed schizophrenia complains about needing it for anxiety for example). From what I read about California, getting a script is as easy as taking a 15 minute doctors appointment and saying "I have insomnia and weed helps". Some states however you have to damn near in the fatal stages of a condition to get one

Taxes are pretty high on tobacco here and smoking's down to less than 20% now. Alcohol is practically a religion in most states but I know Australians love their booze. A nanny sate is simply more taxes for more stability in the lives of it's citizens. You pay more taxes for better health care, more mental health care and more stability in the housing and economic climates of the country. The nanny state is exactly why your country is so much more prosperous than America.

HouseLaLaurie wrote:It's decriminalized for recreational use within the city limits of Detroit, and pretty much all of Wayne County turns a blind eye (except on Belle Isle, which is now a state park). I believe it's due more to the strain on resources than true reform, however. We can't afford to jail nonviolent criminals who don't owe money. Don't worry, the rest of the US will catch up to our level of suck soon enough. ;)

One of my jobs is that I work for a non-profit land development company and I've recently been too Detroit twice this spring. It's the most bizarre thing in the world to see a formally rich, prosperous city, an entire region really, just crumble right in front of your eyes. You really can see the end of the 'American Century' in it's ruins, maybe of the 'American Dream'.

At least the weed's legal. :D

Jalpha wrote:Is that different to how the US handles things?

It's pretty much how it works in most states. It varies widely between states but that's the most common.

Please. You don't even make the list. This is also old data and prices have increased.
