You guys think small, I suppose with the current population of Salem on a steady decline. A trader can do all the things you mention, for myself I prefer to think in terms of dozens of trades per day, meaning a lot of different players, if I had to figure out if they're a honest traders, get their forum names, trade small amounts then more and more, etc. I would spend my entire time doing that. So what part of Salem being a sandbox does this fall under? I am not building anything, terraforming anything, growing anything. I am wasting a lot of time, perhaps that's the part of Salem this is. Wasting time cause Salem lacks any decent form of trading, why is there even a position on it? There should be secure trading, no ifs, ands, or buts, about it.
Sandbox or not, it is a MMO dealing with a lot of people from around the world, nothing is real is the better assumption. Salem without secure trading is inferior, in RL someone scams you, you can call the police, give them a videotape. In the past you pull out a gun and shoot them in the head, go farther back in time, and you would find your head on a chopping block. But stealing from a trader since the beginning of time, would usually result in your death or worst. Ahh, but insecure trading in Salem with no penalty for scamming someone that's ok, it's a sandbox the more real it is....wait I am having trouble figuring out what is realistic here. Since in real life, the penalty has always been severe usually resulting in loss of limbs or your life. You also had support of many other people to insure things go without incident. The realistic view point is you don't have a choice of scamming someone, so...you should not have the choice or opportunity.
Want to keep things that suck in the game, that's fine, and the game will never become successful. It will continue to shrink even more than what it was this time last year. As far as playing something else, I do now. Salem is a part-time game i play once every couple days now. I have gone from few hours per day to a few minutes every other day, and eventually I prob will quit for good and you don't have to be bothered with any more of my posts.
Devs are naive to think this barrel trading is a good thing, if they do actually, I kinda suspect they don't want to put the time in to making secure trading happen but instead ignore the issue, I haven't found the post about devs saying anything on barrel trading, how long ago was that? Then removing market stalls? Seriously, another blow to making the game enjoyable. Without those stalls being a trader sucks, as far as personal stalls outside of boston will not work either, people won't spend 30 minutes walking to do a trade, by that time you could have prob made, manufactured, crafted, or foraged whatever you wanted. No way, I wouldn't do it for a load of coal or lime or anything else, or maybe just go out to check the stalls inventory. Not worth the trouble, it would only annoy me. Would never do it.
Secure trading is what new players expect to have, when I first started I thought they were lying to me and just wanted to steal my stuff and silver. I have never liked barrel trading, it was dumb back then and still is.
