Inspiration and noob unfriendlyness

Postby rustles » Mon Apr 14, 2014 2:00 am

So I got some people to play with me, and they're constantly getting knocked out somehow, losing all their inspiration, and then have to create a new char as 400k inspiration = several days worth of waiting.

Everybody agrees that this mechanic is ridiculous, and most of our guys have quit already because of it.

The initial learning curve is really bad too, when you first start playing you have no idea what to do. And the inspiration limit prevents us from progressing since we all have to wait half a day just to learn 1 skill.

Its no wonder why we have such a low player count when 95% of the players can't make it past the first couple of days without getting fed up and quitting.

So first a snake was running around biting everybody, then I got disconnected and the people on my claim got knocked out for tresspassing, then they eat a devil's wort, then another snake comes around, etc.

My claim is constantly getting littered with leantos because they have to make a knew char every time they get knocked out.

I really don't understand the purpose of these new limitations other than to piss everybody off and make them quit. We were fine without it.

Is there an idea in there anywhere or are you just *****? If you think we shouldn't lose our inspiration when we ko, that losing two proficiencies is enough, everyone agrees with you. There's already been mention of that idea in a few other threads.

Also, once you know about the penalty... why don't you be a little more careful? Stay away from the snakes and turn on study protection so you won't eat the Devil's Wort. :/

Its not me, its the people I bring into the game. If it were up to me, I would have them make 5 chars before they learn all the **** that will get the knocked out, but they don't have the patients for this ****.

It is obvious that there is a problem when everybody you play with quits for the same reason.

Pic related, forth person to quit since yesterday.

No offense but I think the problem may be you. Why aren't you prepping these people any better if you are already aware of the problems they will face? I believe we call this a hardcore permadeath game. It was never meant to be easy and it probably never will. You should be warning the people you invite that it is quite a challenge from the start. Maybe have them read the wikis and/or beginner posts here before they ever make the first toon.

People don't want to read walls of text and instruction books to learn the immediate basics of a game. All that **** should be self explanatory and obvious. They expect to pick up the game, and play it right off the bat.

We live in an era of extremely limited attention spans, and an abundance of games to choose from. If the first half hour of a game is extremely frustrating and confusing, they'd just close the window and find something else to play.

Believe me I linked the guide and the wiki, but all I got was "lol tl;dr I'm playing WoW instead"

I understand your frustration and agree that people want things to be easy. However, the devs do not say this is a "casual" game. It has been in development for some years now and if there was any real intention to provide clear guidance to new pilgrims the tutorial directly from jorbtar would already exist. I believe they expect us to wing it. Maybe kinda like the real pilgrims. Meet others, take your chances, make your way.

To say they choose WoW over Salem doesn't really mean much to me as it's apples and oranges. If they chose HnH over Salem it would carry more weight imho. The objective of a commercialized game is a bit different than an indie thing as I'm sure you know.

If thats their response this is just not the game for them. What would they do the first time they got killed or raided? Cry that defenses take too much thought so they should not have to build them?
Your problem seems to be that you are recruiting idiots, with no patients, and no ability to cope with their mistakes into a slow moving permadeath game. Send them to go play haven and see how long they last when the animals kill them instead of KOing them.

You and your friends should go back to Call of Duty.
