Canoe Placement

Postby pistolshrimp » Wed Apr 09, 2014 11:24 pm

A simple suggestion: when dropping canoes from the backpack slot they should only land in shallow water. I shouldn't have to swim to get in my canoe.

why do you need a coded solution for something you can just do yourself (= drop canoe in shallow water)?

you can only do that while carrying it over your head, not on your back.

I agree, at least there should be a more straightforward rule (e.g. it always lands in front of you, pointing away from you) or something like that, which should at least make it predictable. (similar to tree logs).
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Yeah, not too long ago, I was canoeing with an alt. I put the canoe in the water and it landed in the center of a very wide river, like 3 squares away. I had to waste half an hour running a stronger character up there to retrieve it.

I don't know if it's just my graphics card but often times I can't tell were the actual deep water begins, like I'll be able to walk a bit out onto the dark blue, or sometimes, and this is where I have problems with canoe placement, I'll drop the canoe into the shallow water but because the deep water is intruding on the shallow I'll have to swim out to get it, not far of course, often I don't even swim I just have to turn on swimming to get in. And because I can't always tell where I'm dropping the canoe if I try to do it close to land I'll drop in on land. Once on the end of a slope and a river I dropped the canoe and it flew down the hill and I actually had to walk to retrieve it.

The issue isn't the ocean or lakes, but mostly with rivers where there isn't much shallow water.

Obviously this isn't a big deal, there will be no tears shed if I have turn on swimming every so often, but at the same time it'd be nice to see the placement be a bit better.

Would be nice if it was more predictable, saw someone lost a canoe in the church last week because when he set it down it appeared behind the wall xD

Yes, it would be nice if it at least did not drop canoes and sleds behind walls and in objects.

Agreed.

If your character is capable of putting it in a spot it should also be capable of getting into it.

Makes sense, don't see it ever being added. Predictable placement would be nice.
