Beekeeping would seem to be a logical build into the game. A skill learned after the agricultural skills (except horti and three field), will allow you to construct beehives.
Here's where I differ, I think the system should operate similar to turkey farming. Wild beehives could exist in certain types of trees. you must shoot one down (with slingshot/pistol/musket) or chop the tree down. The bees will attack you for a bit (draining some blood or something) made into a debuff like shroom poisoning.
From the wild beehive you get honeycomb, this honeycomb can be placed into the player built beehive (just like a turkey) the space below the honeycomb can produce honey or wax (or maybe even rare inspriationals or jstuff like royal jelly a rare ingredient, etc) or possibly an extra honeycomb (not my preference, i think honeycombs should be gatherable only).
When a beehive has honeycomb in it, fields and plants in gardening pots in a certain area will gain a +20% speed buff and maybe even a +20% Plenty bonus OR maintain upkeep at 50% without the need for woodchips (although we do have loads of woodchips)
Maybe even help trees growing..

I dont know about introducing new clothes etc. for it, but it would be nice for more stuff in any case. but I feel beekeeping is a good addition to the game, that would feel a natural improvement rather than a forced change.
