Appreciate the guide... some good tips in there. However.. as a hermit.. I wouldn't even consider building a base anywhere near water... or even lime... too much traffic. I personally have alts for everything... lime alt, water alts for different purities, one alt that mines ore, another one who smelts it 100 miles away.. I have 5 alts at my home base just to vault my valuables... my base doesn't have a mine, a shed, an anvil, a canoe.. not even a sled. Makeshift fence is all I use, and if anyone gets in, they'll make off with nothing more than meat and a few inspirationals... Basically I want to look like a noob that doesnt have anything worth leaving a scent for...

Flying under the radar is the key to Hermit survival... there is no defense you can build that can protect you against what's coming...

"Live" being the key word there...

And whats so bad about it? I have my assets spread out and secured so that any single attack cannot cripple my progress.. is that so bad?

I have said it twice already and tell it even a third time: No tree walls possible anymore as trees require some empty spacing (no other trees, structures or fences) around the spot you want to plant them.

Not too far away from.. does not mean on top of.. I will edit the OP to reflect this misconception. Remember if you are starting from scratch it is not easy to make a lime or water alt with nothing more than foraged inspirationals.. of course, after the initial home is built, alts can be made to go for higher purity lime and water.. but the value of these is limited until you have the infrastructure to make use of them..

I do not wish to address character development or the finery's of alts in this guide.

As for appearing worthless to raid, I used to subscribe to this train of thought, but at some point you are going to have to grow plants.. this in itself is enough to attract attention as people want the seeds, check out your humus etc.. The idea of the suggested base design is to deter casual raiders, make them think twice, "does breaking into this base warrant the potential lost biles through crits?" there is nothing, ever that will stop any raider getting in If they are determined, building a base with good defenses protects you from the people you can do something about, rather than those you can do nothing about.

Hermitry should not be considered a limit to how much of the game you experience, flying below the radar might be fine for you, but at some point I want high purity crops, high tier crops and a nice house. I do not think everyone who wants to play this lifestyle wants to constantly shift alts and bases and pretty much tread water getting no where until a bored raider spots them and wipes out any real thing they may have achieved.

brazier crits no longer deal permanent bile damage.
