Crossroads - Salem version

Postby Procne » Fri Mar 21, 2014 12:18 pm

Town mayor can build a single crossroad signs in his town. Any town member gets additional teleport option, apart from Boston and home, to teleport to a crossroad sign.
He can teleport only if he's standing on the vclaim and is out of combat, and is always teleported to the nearest crossroad sign, plus the sign must be in his range of sight.

This is to make it possible to actually form any kind of small community.

Yes, proper screening can do the trick, but this requires a lot of time and effort, and thus is available only to the big factions, leaving no space for people who just want to play together with some people they met in game.

We already have too much teleportation in Salem, please no more.

Basically all the OP is suggesting is a way for village members to get past walls without having a key... why not just make it so the mayor can make some gates in the village "Town Gates" which simply allow members to walk through without a key.

Might make it a bit too easy to escape into a walled area when you see people coming. Potential enemy on map? Walk into claim, *teleport*.

Perhaps a town design more suited for a community would be a better idea.
Put the new people in a outter area where they can only give access to the newbie section. Let them move further in as they get more trust. Doesn't really need a change in mechanics.

Oh yes, that's certainly possible, but I count it as the screening process. It requires you to build extra infrastructure and pay extra upkeep. I'm looking for a solution where 2-4 casual players can form a town and safely recruit some random player without having to build a second town ot watching the guy 24/7.

This is an MMO, but it's very... prohibitive when it comes to grouping with other players. Much more than Haven

True, I still think a teleport would allow for too easy of an escape route from anywhere on the claim though.
Perhaps an airlock-like gate structure would work. It'd be 3*3 tiles in size, coming in a version for each wall type. The basic structure would look like a cube with two 1-wide doors on each end. Opening the outside gate ensures the inside one is closed, opening the inside gate closes the outside one. The purpose would be to allow an entrance for one person at a time, without giving them the ability to leave a way into town open. A restrictive gate for somewhat untrusted peasants if you will. Since having a 24/7 guard detail to keep random people from dooming a town isn't feasible in a game.

Well, the simplest solution would be to allow town members to walk through gates without opening. Just like claim owner can walk through claim token.
But that would require some special type of lock / key, for walking through.

I assume you weren't playing HnH.

In HnH gates were not used at all. There was a crossroad sign inside and outside the village and people simply teleported between those. For this reason no city member ever needed to open gates and thus they were never given a key to do so. As a consequence noone you recruited could open the gates for enemies.

The idea is about removing the need / ability for recruited town members to open the gates for the enemy.
