Gluttony Events

Postby DarkNacht » Tue Mar 11, 2014 12:09 am

Gluttony events should be reintroduced. They gave meaning to the exact elemental values of the food which meant alchemy was not just a grind to the highest value but instead you had to first figure out the best values to grind to was. It also allowed for the much more complex ingredient matrices. The new additions add some interesting complexity but there was no reason to remove the old complexity to implement it.

With the events back I think it would all become too complicated.
And I'm not sure if I like the notion "this item is good when it has high salt, and this is good with high mercury but weak with sulphur".
Elements still have some meaning in crafting where you have to use materials of similar alchemical composition

I like the elements as they are now; you're encouraged to trade for stuff compatible with whatever natural ingredients you yourself own, which is kindof fun. Having the different gluttony events just seemed to mean that you had to have 4x as many purity fields, which isn't actually a great thing imo.

If you want to make elements more meaningful in gluttony then how about this:

Every time you eat a food pure in a specific element:
1. You receive a stacking debuff for this element. Debuff could decrease gluttony points, like food categories do, or increase the timer.
2. Debuffs for other elements are lowered.

The goal is to encourage gluttoning of different element foods, which in the long run would mean that in the future, when most of your food is crafted from components you grow yourself, that is of single element purity, you still have to mix in some foraged stuff of different purities.

Although the positive effect of this change, if any, would probably not be worth tinkering with it.

That would also favour large groups who have the manpower to set up 4 elemental purity grinding systems & protect the resources involved.

although I guess thats not inherently bad.

That still does not fix the problem that the recipe system is now gutted and over simplified.

Which system is over-simplified - the one which made you use 2-3 dishes per bile or the one which makes you gather variety of foods?

Also, the old system with events worked fine when you could reach high purities. But after the purity update people returned to eating foods with highest average bile gain.

Dark is looking for a return of meaningful recipe combinations. E.g bear + turkey meat pie is phlegm, while bear + beaver is bb.

Now all that changes with modifying ingredients in variable ingredient recipes is a minor difference in restore bonuses. Dark would like the minor change in restore bonuses and the fundamental change in the primary bile of the food.

he has specifically named the thread "gluttony events" and talks about alchemical composition. He's not talking about ingredients.
And in case of ingredients - they still give some differences in gluttony values, although quite small, as well as additional food type debuff restoration.

You are correct. Alchemy events go hand in hand with variable recipes though. It would be pointless to have one without the other.
