5) true ? (You all sure)

Was always under the impression scents actually expired. Was murder not 3-4 months or so ? Then it just goes *poof* and it vanish;s from were ever you have stored it ? With waste around 2 months.

The scene goes away relatively quickly, hours to a few days (9 for murder if I recall correctly). Evidence lasts 10x longer than the scene does according to jorb.

It's really nice to see new players in the game. I just wanna remind new players that the game is a permadeth game which contains sinister players so i listed what you should do and shouldn't do.
1- Settle somewhere pretty far from Providence. Walk 4 or 5 hours and find yourself a nice place to settle.
2- Never pave the ground where you settled. This is a golden rule! If you pave somewhere, bad guys can find you easly.
3- Don't give anyone your homestead secret. You have to make yourself a complicated homestead secret.
4- Don't stay close to someone out of Providence. If someone tries to close you, press ctl and left click ur stuff and drop everything then teleport home.
5- Never leave summonable scents (larceny, waste, muder, battery) Because someone can keep your scent forever and kill you when you are offline.
6- Buy a personal claim and put where you live. Your claimed area must contain all of your base and your walls must be stay inside of your claim.
7- Buy locksmithing skill and lock your all doors and keep them closed.
8- Buy a town charter and put a town bell where you live as soon as possible.
9- Do not show your humors and proficiencies to people.
10- You will need forestry to build tree walls. Tree walls are best defence system in the game. Buy forestry as soon as possible.

1- Darkness is 4 hours away. Telling people to settle 5 hours will put them in darkness before they get a church and kill them. This is terrible advice.
2 - Paving increases the speed of carts, and therefore, the efficiency in which you can built a base. Paving is a must in the new world. This is terrible advice.
3 - A homesecret is the best and smartest thing you can do and give out IF YOU CLAIM A LEANTO. If you are on the claimstone you should not do it. Many people will murder those who do not kin out of fear of the unknowing and not kinning people in this game is one of the most dangerous things to do. Your advice is once again terrible.
4 - Dropping **** to teleport home takes longer than logging out. Telling people to stand there dropping stuff has a higher chance to get them killed than just logging off.
5 - True
6 - True
7 - Do not lock your doors before you can break them. A person can KO you and steal your key then you will be trapped without being able to leave your base. This advice was terirble.
8 - This is a huge cost and is not in the best interest of a casual player until they can afford it.
9 - True
10 - Tree walls don't work this world you are going ot have players waste hours trying to make a defense that doesn't work.

You have given advice that is wrong 70% of the time. Please don't troll people in Help.

1. For a new player it will take then longer to get to the Darkness so they will take longer than 5 hours lack of climbing skill , canoe , not enough biles to wander the whole way etc.
2.New players should not pave their base since it will increase the chances of it being raid, yes the Cart would move slower but a new player shouldn't increase the chances of being raid in exchange for a cart moving faster.
3.True
4.Sometimes logging off you may crash /stay online for a bit longer , also a new player will log off for a couple min and come back on causing then to get killed if the person wait on them, I think it better to move away while dumping your inventory then port.
7.Always lock your gate even if you can't break the wall, Put the master key tho.
8.Get a town bell as soon as you can.
10.True

I wonder if there are any GamerZachs or EegoreVids type players around who have the ability and the patience to produce a series of videos for YouTube. For me, those two provided the most help and inspiration when I first considered Salem back in mid 2012. It actually took me a couple months to decide to give the game a try. It was the friendly, helpful, unbiased, high quality approach that really sold the game to me.

Additionally, sabinati's wiki and the Ender/Latikai Client were absolutely essential. Their work, and that of the many contributors, needs to be applauded on a daily basis. I don't recall the names of those who hosted maps at the time I joined, but I can at least give credit to Imrielle and Droj for their efforts in that area.

Not intending to leave anyone out, I have to give credit to the many helpful players that take time to provide thoughtful and inspiring advice in Help! And I think that MagicMan deserves special attention for his undying service to the community.

1. As deshaun says, an inexperienced player will take longer to get places. But chief is right, If you hit darkness, turn around asap and get outta there
2. Tbh i dont see new players building carts until they should be in a position to not be that vulnerable to chance raiding.. signing the treaty helps significantly
3. I keep my own council on this.. its useful, but not imperitive for life as a hermit.
4. Chief is spot on.. dont mess about and log off asap.. make an alt, play and alt, do not even consider returning to that toon for at least 30 mins.. the longer oyu leave it the less chance they are waiting
5. commit a crime you take a huge risk of being found and killed, if not by the victim, but by anyone the victim knows.. that includes stolen goods.. dont think you can shift them around to lose the scent.
6. without a doubt this is the first step you will make for security and longevity.. a PC protects from decay and wandering scavengers.
7. Lock gates when you make them, have a specific alt to open and lock that gate.. eliminate the need to take keys outside the base
8. Signing the treaty will protect you from the only people with balls enough to lay a waste claim, a town bell would help against the opportunistic and half dedicated raiders.. but it is expensive.. and probably not worth it until you have a serious infrastructure built and operating. I worked out that you wold need 10 cotton fields continuously growing to fund the town bell.. consider this as a means of funding.
9. Most people wont ask or care.. Dress well and people tend to leave you alone
10. Get inventive with your defenses.. tree walls wont save you now :)

I haven't got forestry yet. What exactly has changed with Tree walls? Is it not a crime to chop trees on a town you don't belong to now?

Someone have tried with Grand Maple Tree or new "big" ones ? Grand Maple used to be a little more than 1 tile wide in my memory , is it still the case ?

I try that as soon as i have some alive saplings of that tree. But I expect similar results to the smaller trees.

1. Not everybody is running like the Chief, so it's not 5 hours if you're leisure strolling, it's more.
Staying close to Providence increases the chance for pipikaka Chief to find you and kill you.
2. True. This will also increase the chance for Chief to find you and kill you when he's looking on the minimap
3. You don't need in game friends. Get real life friends to play with you. This decreases the chance for any of the teammates to be related to the Chief. If a team member of yours is related to the Tribe, you will sooner or later die.
4. True. Logging off also gives Chief the time for him to put a wall around you and trap you inside of it with him. He will simply stay there until you log in so he can kill you.
7. Keep slave keys to yourself. Keep rocks inside your homestead. Nobody can use a key if YOU don't attune it to them. So lock your gates, keep a master key on your alt, and stroll around with your slave key. If you ever lose it, make another one
8. Probably the only time I'd be willing to agree with the Chief. Having a town increases the chance for him to find you as there will be a big patch of town claim around.
If any non-tribe members are able to discuss why it's beneficial to have a town bell, then please elaborate.

Chief you should stop wearing a fedora
