Advices for new players!

Hello

It's really nice to see new players in the game. I just wanna remind new players that the game is a permadeth game which contains sinister players so i listed what you should do and shouldn't do.

1- Settle somewhere pretty far from Providence. Walk 4 or 5 hours and find yourself a nice place to settle.
2- Never pave the ground where you settled. This is a golden rule! If you pave somewhere, bad guys can find you easly.
3- Don't give anyone your homestead secret. You have to make yourself a complicated homestead secret.
4- Don't stay close to someone out of Providence. If someone tries to close you, press ctl and left click ur stuff and drop everything then teleport home.
5- Never leave summonable scents (larceny, waste, muder, battery) Because someone can keep your scent forever and kill you when you are offline.
6- Buy a personal claim and put where you live. Your claimed area must contain all of your base and your walls must be stay inside of your claim.
7- Buy locksmithing skill and lock your all doors and keep them closed.
8- Buy a town charter and put a town bell where you live as soon as possible.
9- Do not show your humors and proficiencies to people.
10- You will need forestry to build tree walls. Tree walls are best defence system in the game. Buy forestry as soon as possible.

New players should beware that the game mechanics have changed. Good base design in the previous world, which is what everyone knows right now, might not always be good design now. Also, the last picture was a very pretty base, but it was poorly defended by first age standards.

Otherwise, points 1 thru 9 are pretty good advice.

Don't bother with leveling more ground than you need for construction, your time is much better spent on your characters. Your base is not your most valuable asset your characters are. If it looks as if though your base is about to become overrun don't put your main crafters and builders in risk, just port them straight to Providence. For this reason it's always a good idea to have storage alts with materials that you need for reconstruction such as tools, dowsing rods/woowoo wands, seeds/seedlings, purity planks etc...

It is also important that you scout your surroundings well before settling so you don't settle within 10 minutes walk of major village/settlement. If you do there is a good chance you will be raided/killed.

Never PvP or commit crimes on your main, for this purpose use specialized disposable combat alts, and make sure that your combat chars homestead has enough defenses to prevent someone from summon-killing them without some commitment. You might even want to consider building a separate base for your combat chars that you use only to keep them safe, this is to make sure that you do not lose your main production base when a big faction decides to go after your combat dudes. On this topic you shouldn't really ever consider having only one main character as this will force you to start over completely in the event you get killed. I recommend running two characters from the start and developing them in different directions. This will also allow you to progress much quicker as you won't be as inhibited by the inspiration system.

I'm sure there is a lot more to add but that is all I have for now

Just in case you did not notice: Treewalls have been nerfed. Now you have to leave enough space between the trees that a guy with a cart could pass between them.

Hi since you're giving out advice I was wondering, what should I look for in a place to settle?
high purity clay, foragables, water, animals, mine? and what should I be looking for as high purity exactly, so far I haven't seen anything above 3%

1- Darkness is 4 hours away. Telling people to settle 5 hours will put them in darkness before they get a church and kill them. This is terrible advice.
2 - Paving increases the speed of carts, and therefore, the efficiency in which you can built a base. Paving is a must in the new world. This is terrible advice.
3 - A homesecret is the best and smartest thing you can do and give out IF YOU CLAIM A LEANTO. If you are on the claimstone you should not do it. Many people will murder those who do not kin out of fear of the unknowing and not kinning people in this game is one of the most dangerous things to do. Your advice is once again terrible.
4 - Dropping **** to teleport home takes longer than logging out. Telling people to stand there dropping stuff has a higher chance to get them killed than just logging off.
5 - True
6 - True
7 - Do not lock your doors before you can break them. A person can KO you and steal your key then you will be trapped without being able to leave your base. This advice was terirble.
8 - This is a huge cost and is not in the best interest of a casual player until they can afford it.
9 - True
10 - Tree walls don't work this world you are going ot have players waste hours trying to make a defense that doesn't work.

You have given advice that is wrong 70% of the time. Please don't troll people in Help.

You'd alt-vault the master key, of course.

Thanks for the rebuttal, chief! I will say that #8 should be a goal to work towards as quickly as possible. I agree with you it's not a "must have" immediately and just want to make that small clarification. Players just need to be aware that the two pitfalls of not having a town charter are 1) another player can come along and claim eminent domain over your plot of land and 2) players can raid a claim without warning.

Don't be so hard. He is trying to help, even if the advice isn't perfect.
