You can change your spawn by claiming an unclaimed leanto or by placing a claimstone and making it your homestead. There is a checkbox to do so when you rightclick on your claimstone.

When you start, you have access to one free teleport. You can use it on the wilderness guide and he will take you to a random spot in the wilderness. If you don't like the spot, like you're on a cliff or something stupid, you can tell him to move you again up to two more times.

If you want your friends to play with you, you must do one of two things. Either all leave Boston together and walk to where you want to live, or you can build a claimstone somewhere and they can use their free port to teleport directly to you.

They teleport by talking to the wilderness guide and inputting your homestead secret. You must set your homestead secret at the bottom of the Buddy List window. Clear the homestead secret afterwards for safety.

When they use their free teleport to get to you, a claimed leanto will be created for them automatically and the "Home" button will take them to that leanto. They can make a new leanto if the original is in a bad spot, but they do need to have a leanto claimed. Only you can use the claimstone as your homestead.

If they have already used complimentary guidance from one of the wilderness guides they will not be able to teleport to your claimstone.

You can also group up and walk (and/or run) to the location, helped with the party members arrows.

Not so quick but a good way if you don't have the claimstone yet or if they already used their guide shot.
It is also a very big trip where you can find tons of inspirationals ;)

Naturally, you need to be able to feed yourself adequately or else you won't be using them a whole lot.

Depending on the biome this can also be tricky because not all of them are super big on readily available food.
