Learning Ability

Postby Zou » Wed Aug 01, 2012 3:18 am

Hi there. I'll post what little I've discovered about learning ability so far. If anyone has different info, feel free to post it here.

Every time you add a first item to study, your learning ability drops. If you study the same item multiple times, it drops further. Studying different items in one study 'session' seems to increase the learning ability.

For example, if I study two smooth stones, my learning ability drops to 50%. If I study a chestnut with those two smooth stones, it increases back to 70%.

Learning ability seems to affect the points given from a curiosity. I haven't discovered whether or not it slows down the learning time.

Seriously, why the hell does it drop to 70% when I'm only studying one thing, and it's the first inspirational. WHY!!!!??????

Rage over.

yeah this was a needed change but the grind is pretty insane now since when I last played, hope they tune it down a bit pronto.

Grind doesn't seem bad at all, 13 skills done, many more in the works. Plenty of inspirationals variety to mix things up.

Are you sure about that, Zou? Looked like it only applies if the next item studied is the same as the last.

With some experimentation, if I study a bunch of one item (wood choppings were my guinea pig), bringing it way down, if I studied something else, it was at full value. If I studied a wood chopping again, it'd drop clear back down to where it was. Needs more experimenting, though, just to make sure I'm not misreading what I'm doing.

Definitely an interesting system. Can't wait to see how it's abused.

Each item has its own "diminishment" tick. They go away over time. Very crucial for how high level skills will work.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.

You are going to lose all but the hardcore players with this change. If you think it is a needed feature, I suggest that the decrease the learning drop per use of the same item to around 10% per. The grind was big enough before, I don't think this was even needed.
