Horses were not indigenous to the area at that time. You can thank the Spanish Empire for bringing them to the Americas.

Because the gun was far superior. Why step back in technology?

The game is set with players being settlers, not natives as much as some wish this wasn't true.

But so what if it sets the technology back? It could be learned before the gun. But to add poison or shoot longer distances or something could take longer. I dunno. I still agree with myself. It would be awesome.

Again European settlers.

Also the devs notoriously hate range combat.

Generally speaking guns were easier to master for the average person and to aim they had downsides such as reloading with powder and balls, but the damage inflicted was severe especially at close range. Just from a brief look
Pros
Guns:
easier to aim
can penetrate armor.
can inflict additional damage at close range in the form of burning or buckshot
greater ammo capacity
Bow and Arrow:
silent
faster to reload
damage can be fatal in one shot (can also just cause minimal damage so a con too)
poisons and fire (Greek fire too) can be applied for additional damage
can use arrow to stab with

Cons
Guns:
Loud
reloading times
if your hit your opponent in a non critical area arm, leg, ass they are not as crippled as an arrow and can come after you.

Bow and Arrow
Limit ammo supply
wind can reduce aiming a lot unless skilled
cannot penetrate certain armor
not effective at close range

etc etc just a brief look at them

A decent longbowman needs a lifetime of training, a musketeer just a few days to become competant.

Armor was for the most part removed from the battlefield due to guns. Some armors were able to stop shots but generally yes they were much better at penetration

Burning from guns doesn't happen unless you are close as a mf and wouldn't matter compared to the damage you receive from the bullet.

Blood wrote:greater ammo capacity

Supplying an army with muskets is expensive. Supplying an army with musket ammunition is not. More shots than arrows can also be carried by an individual. Each shot was also cheaper.

Bow and Arrow:

Everything you see on TV isn't real. Depends on where a person is hit, a person can survive for some time from either.

Blood wrote:poisons and fire (Greek fire too) can be applied for additional damage

Other then the amazons i don't think poisons where used generally. Greek fire has been lost for ages.

Blood wrote:can use arrow to stab with

Stop playing team fortress

Cons
Guns:
Blood wrote:Loud

Should be a pro since this is a very large intimidation factor and spreads fear in knowing someone is shooting.

Blood wrote:reloading times

True hence volley fire

Blood wrote:if your hit your opponent in a non critical area arm, leg, ass they are not as crippled as an arrow and can come after you.

I don't think you know how ballistics work....at all with a gun or bow

Blood wrote:wind can reduce aiming a lot unless skilled

Same as a gun

Blood wrote:cannot penetrate certain armor

People were not roaming around America in full plate.
