how far into the main areas did you get? There are basically 2 noob island areas for each faction to get through before the game really starts.

what would you compare it to as that game being better?

I had 2 quests locked but none of the main ones.
This game will make millions I'm sure.
combat system needs work but later game it gets better.
buying imperial gets you a horse, a week early from release and a month covered I believe.

There were several that were bugged after you left the newb Isle for Dragonfall Covenant. Maybe the other two faction area worked great. Lots of other glitches as well; but it's a Beta.

As I can put up with Salem's crap- TES's first BETA was a breeze to enjoy.

It felt a bit like Wow, Rift, SWTOR, LOTRO and Guildwars2... all at the same time. Devs took some of the best parts of each and made a decent game.

The thing that kills it for me is hacks- not mechanics. Takes a tiny percentage of the population to really kill it for everyone. It's how the Devs deal with this that will matter the most.

(LOTRO did a great job eliminating hacks... admittedly it was mechanics that drove me from this one.)

Salem isn't immune either. If Tribe or others can go back to mapping the server by manipulating Java scripts... I'll get bored and disinterested with Salem too.

This sums it up for me, been there, done that.

Wouldn't even be worth playing (for me) if it was F2P.

What I DO like are the amazing graphix

Enjoy your themepark.

This I can quite agree with. I expect them to transfer over to the financial model before a year is out, kinda like Star Wars. I think they already have the plan in place, but they just want to milk as much out of box sales (retail or digital) and subs while they can.

Combat system not so interesting!

Not the first and not going to be the last with reactive combat like this. I've been playing Dungeons & Dragons Online for a while now, and that came out in 2007 or so (and that still wasn't the first).

Wonder when publishers will realize WoW was a major fluke at the time and the rest came from years of dedicated development after release? It takes more to make a highly successful MMORPG than an established IP.

The best combat system for me it is Age of Wulin: Legend of the Nine Scrolls.AoW.

They should just ditch the sub model and leave box sales in place. This works out well enough for Guild Wars 1/2, Defiance, and others. Developers still make cash, and players are happier and more likely to stick around when they don't have to worry about a sub.

Alternately, or in conjunction with this, they could make a tiered subscription model. Trion does this with Rift, and Sony Online Entertainment does this with EverQuest 1 and 2 - I'm sure others do as well, but these are the three I actively play. EQ1/EQ2 have three tiers - Bronze, Silver and Gold, and it works out fairly well for them, their subscriptions for EQ2 jumped back up after they switched to this. I know that personally, I am more likely to try a game, and pay for it, if it has a try before you buy option (even single player games, I love demos. I refuse to shell out 60$USD or more for a game that I don't know will run well, or is fairly bug free).

Either way, on the topic of "What to play while we wait", I'm playing a lot of Gnomoria, and Starbound, too, I'm sure.
