Who didn't had a beta key is a better question, think everyone who signed up got one, it's just not a game for me, it has a been-there-done-that feeling for me...

I gave up on Elder Scrolls when they announce their harsh death penalty of durability loss :).

I got a beta offer for TESo back in January but hadn't redeemed it until this weekend. i've been playing it all day and I'm pretty impressed. It's a beautiful game with a massive crafting system. It's got some okay penalties for dying and I love the combat mechanics. I don't understand how anybody can compare it to WoW these days. it's got so much more and it's so much less cartoony.

I'm actually having fun playing Salem this weekend. Now's the time for me to do things like experiment with raiding and other mechanics. Even bought a gun and am practicing target shooting. My next action is to leave my base with just some survival equipment and go live off the land for a day or two. It's Role playing I know but not something I get to do often given I have limited playing time and given the grind of maintaining bases, upgrading stats, and all that.

Well I haven't gotten to the full PvP area yet but I've heard it's going to be partial loot. They do have bodies sticking after they die in the regular areas. Dying in the beginning areas forces you to choose between being placed immediately next to whatever killed you or the nearest Waystone which can be pretty far away. More importantly dying degrades every piece of armor and weaponry in your inventory or on your character by one level.

that actually sounds like it might be worth playing, MMO's never have any real penalties for dying, be nice to see something change that
