Darwoth wrote:again *******, anything that goes out over the internet be it your stupid texts, your girly voice or your up to date breaking news tweets about your life that nobody cares about IS being stored and passively monitored and it has been since before your dumb ass knew how to **** in the toilet much less use a computer.
there are ACRES worth of server rooms in virginia and maryland that store and catalog all of this "information nobody tracks" for later analysis.

Now you are making fun of yourself Darwoth !

While you both have some valid points, it's both far from reality and straight from the movies.

Software mentioned was/is a system which saves messages containing keywords, it used a standard packet sniffer and straightforward filtering, nothing high-tech there...
Read those large agreements nobody cares about & instinctively being pressed 'i agree' and you will know if that certain game is being watched.

Most of the data being hijacked is because of data interception, 99% of the ISP's have an agreement and allow such companies to sniff packets (not store, but analyze & store if needed) on the fly.
This only works for non-encrypted strings, most of our data is encrypted anyway.

this one was more relevant, but in an article about second life it was mentioned that in addition to being able to talk freely or exchange video instructions, you could easily transfer up to 5k of us dollars through PayPal by using the games currency. It also states that there has yet to be any evidence of anyone actually getting caught like this...

and that the gchq has "claimed" the ability to capture Xbox live conversations.

It's the Internet. Believe it at your own risk, disbelieve at your own risk... Oh, wait, that's just like everything else in life.

See ^^; believe or disbelieve at your own risk. Yeah, it could be disinformation to discourage illegal transactions through sources they haven't been able to monitor, but knowing this is public and you still try to broker illegal, insurgent, etc transactions through the same medium, you've got an extra hole in your head you need to plug up fast before the rest leaks out.

The fact is that Darwoth has the basic truth. Is he absolutely right? No idea. People have been snooping packets for decades now. Nothing is safe, and it's coming out some of the most popular encryption technologies are deliberately weak to allow 3rd party decryption. This is what you get when you use tools developed by/for the US military and released to the public.

The fact is, reguardless if they save, snoop, or do nothing to the data they apparently save in the ***** desert he talks of, groups, extremists or whatever you wish to call them continue to use online gaming communication methods to communicate to each other. Its a simple truth, REGUARDLESS OF WHAT D SAYS, or what he believes his precious government does. (There clearly must be a reason why, secure communication methods ?)

When ever Darwoth posts he reminds me of this :
