The point is, IT HAPPENS, even goverments admit it happens (Alot more than people clearly have knowledge of, im looking at you darwoth) and yes they have dedicated units/teams to investigate these scenarios.

carnivore is a dated system that was capable of doing all of the things you describe, it has been around since at least the late 90s the **** they have now is probably outright scary in comparison. i still remember when all of the major service providers were strong armed into installing carnivore at their hubs, there was a big outcry and then nobody ever heard about it again.

just like when all of the major printer manufacturers put microprint codes with the serial number of the machine and other information into the **** that it prints, thereby making it so that the vast majority of anything printed on a home computer has a "fingerprint" that can at a minimum be traced to the machine, and if you were stupid enough to do the "online registration" that is now standard with every computer related purchase to you specifically. this again was a big uproar when it happened, now it has been all but forgotten.

there are ACRES worth of server rooms in virginia and maryland that store and catalog all of this "information nobody tracks" for later analysis.

again *******, anything that goes out over the internet be it your stupid texts, your girly voice or your up to date breaking news tweets about your life that nobody cares about IS being stored and passively monitored and it has been since before your dumb ass knew how to **** in the toilet much less use a computer.

A text chat in a game could easily be sent encrypted and when combined with proxies would be far harder to trace then a prepaid cell phone. Any terrorist that is communicating their plans in unencrypted text or audio is an idiot begging to be caught.
