When it is released it will be amazing. Compared to the Arma mod with graphics, AI, everything, this shows that it will be so far superior. But it won't be in beta until at least end 2014 so there's plenty of time to forget about it and enjoy Salem.

The Beta will be this spring supposedly but I think it's just going to be a continuous update type of game. In the first 2 weeks there were something like 2 or 3 updates a day. It's been down to 2 or 3 a week but like I said it's mechanics and game play are nearly bug free, it's mostly adding content now. I doubt it will take until next fall to perfect. It adds onto the new Arma engine a bit but the basics are pretty similar it seems. I imagine it will probably be the game of the year for 2014 by the end of next year unless TESonline wins.

The point of DayZ is it's FPS-based gameplay: you need to be fast, smart, accurate and "strategically minded" to survive it. It's too different to Salem with it's "planting-eating-paying-upkeep-boring" to compare to.

Also, while most of player are playng DayZ like "everything-that-moves" paranoid killers at the moment, it provides a lot of opportunities for team-play, social interractions, trading and in-game politics (what we liked in Salem) in future. Some large faction may control whole server and attack other servers.

BTW, Tylan, can you show some of your "exellent gear" here, please? The topic is totally derailled already anyway.

i think a game like america's army would be a contender for most realistic shooter game.

claeyt thinks one where you run around killing zombies and finding guns laying on the ground is the MOST realistic shooter game.

Both Arma and it's mod Day Z are based on realism such as having to eat, drink, bullet reload time, etc.... it's not the realism of it's actual content but the mechanics of the game jackass.

As for Day Z being dissimilar to Salem. Sometimes that's a good thing.

I've tried Metro 2033 and it's pretty good especially visually, but it's not open world enough. It's a little too scripted. Def worth a try though if you like games like that.

Duke Nukem is obviously the most realistic FPS.
