The truth of the matter on drying lumber is that we don't know the exact mechanics. We have jorb's description of how they should work. I find the whole mess too tedious to do science. I thought we had an attempt at this already, though, and no conclusions were drawn other than what is currently known.

I'm going to move this thread until we can determine what the actual bug is or if there is even a bug in it. Seems like there's quite a few that have a good system going on it, so if it is bugged, people aren't noticing.

You should be able to check if boards become moldy, and if they do you should be able to treat them.

So instead of leaving them alone, some checking up on them could yield much greater results.

More of a suggestion but yea.

It's a good one and would add more of a dimension to the game that is already pretty passive in too many ways (waiting on crops, time it takes to process different things, etc.) Good thing there is always something to do, even if it is just to forage or hunt.

I have a theory that the amount of Moldy Boards is determined by "When" the boards became moldy. So basically there is a "chance' they become moldy every 5 hours or so since you make them. Then when they do they spread frm there. Basically meaning it is LUCK on when a board is hit with the mold and the placement in distance to other objects just affects "when" they get hit. Sadly I can't think of any way to confirm this.

Definitely. I'm unaware if things that spawn near (stones or other forageables) affect as well.

AFAIK there's a chance for a pile to go mouldy even under perfect conditions. If you get a lot of mouldy ones even though they have enough space, it just might be that the RNG hates you.

Yes that was cleared on this thread before.

Make sure that when you place the Timber Pile there is nothing around it for 5 tiles in all directions. That means no containers where you might have transported the boards with either. I think something is probably decided at that moment when you place the sign. It won't refresh when you build and finish the pile. So placing the sign and clearing the terrain after, for of all objects probably is too late. But that's just my theory. Ive had very little or no moldy boards as of late when i have done this.

I've been using the same grid layout for about 5 harvests now. One of the building patches consistently produces moldy boards.

This is a no-character-traffic area. There are animals in the vicinity of the entire area of all board piles (unless spawn points are static). No structures of any kind within 7 tiles of each pile.

I'll keep trying. The surrounding 7 tiles are not completely level and on the spot that consistently gets +90% moldy, there is a steep incline of dirt.
