Some quick research has told me that anvils that couldn't be lifted by one or two people were pretty rare. Liftable anvils makes sense.

As for what happens when you log out with things over your head, I think the intended behavior is that the object tries to drop in an empty space next to you so you can still log back in without it blocking you. If there is no space it drops right at your feet if it can, and if it can't do THAT it destroys it.

I think there are two reasons they don't just stay with you while you're logged out. The devs didn't want people to be able to hide chests and such while they were offline, and they didn't want to deal with what happens when something appears under you while you're logged out AND you're carrying something. It either has to teleport with you to your homestead (something they don't want), or it has to fall at your feet and embed itself in the other object.

Just make the anvil non-moveable. Its the 16th century for christ sake. No one was a mechanic making hollowed out anvils. No one was dragging them arround on their back in the 1700s. They were carted and placed or built and sat at a smithy permanently, period. It wasnt stolen or destroyed, I logged back in immediately. It hardly matters now cause I was just murdered in game while answering this post. So those two things together have pretty much made the first problem moot. Im done with you savages. This game could have been great. It was revolutionary. But Im not about to sink 100s if not 1000s of hours of my life to have some jerk just kill me for fun and I start all over with nothing. Frankly thats a real turnoff. This game rewards assholes and punishes peaceful players. Better do something about that or I can personally guarantee you this game wont last long, cause no ones going to be playing it except for the handful of idiots who think perma death is a good idea and oh so exciting. Well I can tell you its not, what it is though is pure garbage. Have fun murdering each other and ruining each others day. The game was almost a brilliant stroke of genious but instead its just a griefers paradise. Im completely disgusted that I even tried this and wasted my time hoping Id stumbled onto the first true new "breakout of the mold" MMO.

You knew death could happen at any moment. As far as the anvil moving back then i'm sure they were not permanent fixtures. Game is for a niche group of players and you obv are not in that category. You are also wrong about this game punishing peaceful players. GL finding the mmo for you. There are a few titles from zynga that many people enjoy.

is this you?

Dear jmogler.

I am not here to help, nor troll, but you give you facts.

1. Anvils aren't actually that heavy.
2. You should just build the anvil in your mine.
3. I assume you didn't have a claim, otherwise scents would indicate if its been stolen.
4. 5 Iron bars isn't that much.

yea well a handful of niche players isnt going to support an mmo long term, what would support it are casual peaceful players such as myself who would like to see some type return on their investment of time. Believe me, I am what would have become the base of players for this game. And guess what, Im checking. So if the niche players in this game are just a bunch of pompous assholes clicking away in their mothers basement in between jerk offs, your game wont last long. To be successful you need to atleast have a non murdering server for those people that just want to play casually and enjoy the mechanics of the game. So have fun in your little circle jerk boys.

First off, keep the mud-slinging out of the Help! sub-forum. Yes there are *******, but not everyone in the game or on the forums is like that.

Second, perma-death is one of the mechanics. Everything in this game is dangerous and potentially an "offensive" action, even building your own claim.

Third, you can see a return on your time investment if you dont expect everything to be safely held for you. One anvil is not a lot of time nor effort. It's only 5 bars of iron, 1k silver from the shop? Thats relatively easy to make without buying it.

Fourth, you're proving that you aren't the intended player base if you're going to pack up and leave over one anvil that seems to have glitched out. What would you have done if someone killed you?

Last, if you want to make a suggestion for how to change things in the game (non-moveable anvils, different log-off mechanics, etc.) there is an entire subforum for it.

someone did kill him milonti;)

Isn't the time spent in game enjoying the game rewarding in and of itself jmogler?

Re-roll a char and just enjoy the ride, learn from the mistakes of the past and this run will be better.

I believe this issue has finished. There's some obvious disagreement on this game's direction but the Help! forum is not a place for discussing it. HoB or general chat are more appropriate for that.
It's been neat to see the evolution of a game. Salem has come so far, and still has far to go. Although frustrating, I think it's been an experience worth the effort.
