Has anyone tried aurora? Graphics are 2d maps that show where all the planets and ships are. Managing everything is done through windows forms. There is a detailed research path with fully customized ships.

Is this about voxel games or just going on about indie games now? (I really don't care either way. I enjoy a good discussion on indie games.)

Yeah, I've tried it. I've had a hard time getting into it as the detail on it gets almost absurd, so I have to learn things in bits and pieces as I get up a bit of interest in diving back in. The learning curve is at least as steep as Dwarf Fortress (and I ran across Aurora from the Bay 12 forums). I generally like these 4X space games, too. That reminds me... I'm going to start redirecting people that complain about EVE being Spreadsheets Online to Aurora. The starmap is the ONLY graphical window in the game.

Some things I do like: you can utilize almost everything in a system if you have the right tech. Everything is very customizable (even if it creates a huge headache in trying to organize things). I've not gotten deep enough into a game to seriously critique any AIs.
