Terrainforming, NOT Terraforming

Postby Sipo » Thu Nov 07, 2013 5:05 am

Is it possible? I've been terrainforming my land. Basically, dig up near the autumnal and making it advance.

In short: I dig up my grassland to make autumnal advance. Will this cause more bears to spawn?

Bears tend to spawn near game trails.

Yes it will.
(note to other people: the autumnal is surrounded by woodlands in this case, which pretty much never spawns bears).
Just note that animals won't spawn on pclaims ( but they will on vclaims)
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

Terrainforming is indeed possible. Has anybody tried to do Terrainforming with a game trail to make a giant Game Trail under their base?

I have not done it myself, but I have stumbled upon one in my travels on roanoke, at roughly (-57,-19) on the world map. The trail was terraformed into a 30x30 patch of flatness. I'll try and remember to post a picture here when I pass it again.

Yeah I'd love to see it. Can you use your code-magic to see if animals spawn on the new terrainformed tiles?

Sadly, I can't: spawning code is located on the server, it's only the animal's location that the client receives.

Can you make it so the client would "remember" where it saw a pack of animals spawn and show them on the mini-map for future argo-runs?

given that the client is not aware exactly where your character is on the world, this would be hard to do. Also note that the client does not know the difference between freshly spawned creatures and creatures that simply disappeared from your radar for a while (as a player you can tell the difference because there will be a group of creatures very close together). Another issue why it would be hard to implement. (i.e. if the client could make a distinction between the two, it could print the spawn locations to the minimap tiles that are saved to the hard drive).
