Pricelist

Postby Dalix » Tue Oct 22, 2013 2:27 pm

I'm looking to start a small project and create a listing of the asked price for items in Salem (will start with Jamestown). The aim would not be to regulate the price, people are always free to sell at the price they fell right. Instead, my main goal would be for this list to serve as a starting point, a reference of what shoudl be expected. Example, I would probably put the price for Nails at 15s, even if I have seen them being sold at 10s. Hay price would be 5s, even if someone could ask more for it, etc...you see the picture.

I'm still really newbie to that game, therefore I would need help in filling some prices. Would the traders in the room be interested in participating in that project? Mayybe I could put that in the wiki?

Prices depend on too many factors. Server, its age and population, resource availability, silver availability, number of newbies, game updates.
It changes all the time.

I agree,

Server : I will have it for JT since that is where I am based
Other factors : I would intend to review the listing as people see major issues.

Like I said, the goal is to have a starting point, a reference... I will most likely have round up numbers. The intent is for a newbie players to see that he should sell signing old log around 15s, not around 5s... (just an example, I don't know the going price for Singing Old Log)

But if you think this is not possible, maybe I will just keep asking on the forum what is the going price theses days for such and such items

the best way is usually just to check stalls and then drop that price by 15-20% for man-to-man selling.

Of course, there aren't all that many active stalls around anymore :)
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

good point!

What about prices of itemps that are rarely found on stalls, like that lavender mushroom or lime stone? Better ask here?

those prices are pretty much dictated by the buyers: there are so few and they are far inbetween, that they simply choose their own prices, especially for things like mushrooms. For lime, there is a possibly bigger buyer's market but much less sellers.

It's always hard, but it might be handy to orient yourself on some pretty stable items. Iron and leather, perhaps? Those have no value whatsoever to the NPC's (well, leather does but it's 'bysmally low) so they give a good indication of the inflation of a server.

Example: if iron bars are 70s each, and leather is 20s ea, you shouldn't be dreaming to sell lime at 5s each, but selling singing old logs at 5s each isn't a good idea either, most likely.

In the ideal game economy, i'm against the keeping of a "3rd party" price list because the various stores would compete against eachother and come to a more or less similar price. In the current salem economy I do see the value of some pointers to newbies, though.

I think this is a great idea and you should definitely do it. I remember people doing this exact same thing in Runescape and it was very helpful. A good idea would be to include price ranges/intervals with minimum and maximum price that you have seen available. Well, not neccesarily what you have seen - but just what is generally considered a fair range.
