The hate on forums?

First of all, i would like to stress that this post is in no way personal, nor is it meant to insult any of the communities. Also, i do not believe this thread will make everyone love each other, nor make the forums a forever loveful place. However;

I get that the MM tribe and the GH does not like each other. But, blaming each other of "bug abusing" in a closed beta seems kinda silly. And not only does it seem silly; every single topic in this forum seems to get turned to the fact that someone, at some time, abused/used a bug, and is therefore a lesser being? My point is - come on - it is still a closed beta. Of course there are bugs. Of course there are abusers. Arguing who is abusing, and who are not, just seems plain stupid?

Next, i would like to comment on the game's politics. Now, there will always be a group of people more powerful than others, and those people will always seek to gain more power. It is simply human nature. I fail to see, how people can keep complaining about "big" tribes on whatever server sets the rules. That is the way of the game. Hide, and play as a hermit - join a "small" colony, and have a chance of getting ericted, or join (or pay a fee to) a large tribe, in order to survive.

These are all basic human emotions, only, it is in a game. I find it amusing and unbelievable that people keep flaming not only the tribes who did well, but also members of other tribes that were not so lucky.

Yes - some people bug-abused - but hey - IT IS A BETA.
Yes - some tribes are better than other - IT IS THE WAY OF THE GAME
No - playing a hermit does not make you safe (though i did wish it did).
No - posting an angry post on forum why you left will not bother anyone.

Now, as said, I do not expect this post to change the maturity of posts on the forum. I do however hope, that the moderators will help keeping a more joyful tone, and not be dragged to the level of the posters. It is my general impression, that the moderators (though not always posting as moderators), are actually just adding fuel to the discussion, rather than just taking it to a level where people actually care to read what they write.

Really what the forum needs is more threads about things other than the political drama. The mods try to keep it in the House of Burgesses, which is where people come to rage at each other, and which is where you made this thread. Not sure if you were aware...

This is a sandbox and everyone can play however they want. If, for example, I wish to play the lone wolf going up against the dominant faction on my server and then rage at, and/or troll them on the forums, then I appreciate my ability to do so. I like freedoms.

I also think it's a good thing that people are allowed to express themselves properly. It lets you gauge them better.

Beta or not MM and GH will bug abuse all day.

We actually like each other and get along just fine in our private life ^^

I have to say that although I may not agree with everything that goes on, I do enjoy some of the stories/threads discussing them. I don't have an issue with factions fighting or bug abuse talk. However, I do agree that every thread seems to change to these topics lately and that is starting to ruin many many threads. Other than that issue, it's all normal.

I will say, as a veteran of these games, that one side accusing the other, and vice versa, are all too common place, even in commercial games that have been out for years. The difference is that once a game is released (and hopefully relatively bug free), it dies down significantly.

Neither of these surprise me in the least. Upon release, I would expect anyone getting caught of maliciously abusing bugs to have accounts removed.

I wouldn't be surprised if the latter was a completely contrived drama by the leaders and officers of both factions. ¦]

Are you really a veteran? You should know by now then that bug-use and botting will be allowed forever.

Edit:
Furthermore, the whole "raiding is bad", "bug-abuse is bad", "spying is bad", etc are simply self-imposed moral values which are not inherent to the game itself. The only actions that are inheretely bad are those who break against the rules of the game, and since there are practically no rules, there is a lot of freedom.

It is actually quite childish to be angry with someone just because they played in a way that you didn't like despite the play not being against the rules. Just imagine if a soccer player became angry like a bee just because an opposing player scored a goal through a bicycle kick; it would be ludicrous.

I didn't say anything about botting. You did, and the devs stance on that is pretty clear. As far as being a veteran... yeah, from well before UO ever came out (crappy interface just pulled from the crappy interface of the last couple of UO games). Back then, it was MUDs and BBS games (cause Al Gore didn't invent the Internet until 1996). I played Magic semi-pro for about 5 years, and always at a tournament you'd have someone accusing the other person of cheating. (10% of the players in the larger tourneys occupied 90% of the judges' time.)
