Yes you right it shouldn't be human like npcs.

Maybe you would need to build a "guard house" were when a crime is commited in the area, the guards spawn from the guard houses to fight, just like when a brazier is activated it starts to shoot, when a guard house is activated (Crime in range) Guards start to spawn.

Guard house with a range of 15x15 ? so 1 house needed 30 tiles or something.

If guards are KO'd they are removed from the land, and go on a XX respawn timer also, because im sure the AI of such things would be lousy coded and people will find ways to abuse it and kill them easy im sure.

Great, to make this more interesting we should get wolves.
You catch wolf, put him on cage for some time, in generation or two he changes into dog,
you can build guard house (from scroll available only from capital city) and assign your wolves there.

Bigger guard houses should require more expensive scrolls (like purses), but you can assign more wolves to them of course max size of guard house should be caped by your town bell max auth.

That's when you Pay and Win.

Again, prices, balance, stats etc about guards can be anything, what i said was a mere off the top of my head example.

There are always ways to ensure its not all a "pay to win" by using silver. Maybe a small silver payment is needed, but then upkeep is required in the form of crafted foods, water, drinks, were higher stated guards require better foods, and you would have to build something like a barracks house for your guards, were you store the food etc they use for upkeep.

In this structure then, guards are determined by how many resources you have. Larger villages with larger land to protect should be able to pool more meat resources etc to hire more guards.

I was going for the more extreme example just to show how if there's a way, even a slight one, to abuse it then it will be abused until the rails fall off. I do dig the idea of guards/guard dogs/etc, I just don't see how it'd be able to be implemented.

If going by sq footage, spam crosses until you have 100 npc bots, if going by food upkeep just spam fields, if going by the person hiring them, you can just make more accounts, if by barracks limits for npcs, just build a dozen barracks. If there's a hard limit on them, say 10 per bell, then large villages would be at a disadvantage over a vault, simply because the attackers and guards would all be in a much more condensed area. Good idea, but very difficult to implement and not have it be either OP or useless. Also, the devs hate npc's last I heard, so it'd be a mountain to climb to even have them consider em.

For foods, i was thinking more towards meat products, were hunting rabbits, deer, bear's are required.

Them wolves will not want to eat them cabbage cakes my friend, but that raw deer steak does looks tasty.

Im more for the idea of guard dogs / wolves now, as mentioned though it would be hard to balance the amount of guards to land / characters / village would be balanced, to stop abuse. ill ponder on this for abit.

With the current system though, were upkeep is required for a personal claim, i single personal claim size should determin how many guards they can have, so it does not fall down to a direct village mayor to protect all the villages lands.

You could have 2 types of guards, VClaim, PClaim, were Vclaim is a fixed amount per 1 bell, and PClaim is determined by size. Bigger claims = bigger upkeeps = more guards = more expensive. You wanna defende your XXXXXL claim with guards it does not come cheap.

Such systems like a turkey coop could exist were you capture lone wolves, get male / female, breed them and the pups grow up into domesticated guard wolves etc, were only meat can be added for food / development / upkeep just like current turkeys.

A wolf cage to raise attack dogs would be pretty sweet lol. I like the having to catch and raise them aspect a lot.

I think these ideas are great, and it would not be out of flavor with the rest of the game as we are going to have domesticated pigs and cows etc... so why not dogs

Plus train them somehow (no idea how yet, maybe take them on bear hunting ;) ), so they could get better stats (caped by guard house level of course).

There's a lot of cool stuff you can do with something like that, you could even put in a small silver sink for something like collars to be able to take them hunting that have a chance to break or some durability that wears out. I wouldn't mind having to subdue my wolf buddy if he broke his collar and carry his ko'd self back to the pen every once in awhile while training it.

Just let me tame bears and train them to aggro on anyone who commits a crime on my claim. An army of angry bears ripping someone's face off would be awesome. Wolves would be pretty sweet too but attacks bears just sounds like tons of fun.

As far as this idea of implementing laws an enforcement... no thanks. I like the anarchy and would be one of the first to rebel.
