Why can't I buy this skill?!

Postby kewfest » Tue Jul 01, 2014 10:19 pm

So, I just started playing this game today, and I decided that it would be fun to try to rush to get "the rights of englishmen", only, once I got the necessary points, I couldn't buy it. . .

Here's a screenshot of my character tab, can anybody help me with this?:

I have no clue why I can't buy this, please help me understand what I'm doing wrong! XD

Your proficiency is too low. You can tell by the pinkish/lighter red shade of the bar.

Repeating the same inspirational will extend the bar, but it will not allow you to learn skills that require more points than the bar had originally.

Okay, thanks. Just one more question though, what does "4111/2940" even mean if it doesn't mean my stat maximum is 2940, and how can I actually tell what my maximum is?

Thanks for the quick reply though!

In your example, your Law & Lore level is 14 (1400). "4111/2940" means that you have studied items (multiple of the same kind in this case) that equal 4111 points, but since you studied multiple items of the same kind you were penalized 10% of your level (1400) for each item that was similar - now you require 2940 points to raise that proficiency (of which you now have 4111).

As Feone said, you need to raise Law & Lore to 1600 and Cloak & Dagger to 1750 (1800 since you can't raise only to 1750). You have high enough proficiency in Faith & Wisdom already.

It should be noted that ALL proficiencies are penalized when you study multiples of the same item. The penalty is 10% of the current level of that proficiency. This has a major impact when you are trying to raise multiple proficiencies simultaneously and you intentionally or accidentally study the same item more than once. Point requirements for every proficiency will increase by 10% of its current level. In your case, it appears that you studied duplicate items 12 times (11 times after the first use). However, you can study multiples of any item without worrying about the penalty if your goal is to Buy a skill. The points required to buy a skill do not change when studying multiples of an item. For example, you could study 50 wood choppings to buy the skill Humble Abodes

Okay, that makes sense.

Yeah, I have only used Lumberwood Figurines to raise those stats, so it would makes sense that I have a huge penalty :P

I thought it might be worth pointing out that it looks like you are using the Default Client. There are 2 Custom Clients that offer some nice features that most players consider essential.

Both Clients have their own threads in the Artiface & Arcana forum
Ender Client
Latikai Client

The Latikai client builds upon the Ender Client and offers more features. I recommend the Latikai client, but both are superior to the default client. The 3 biggest features of both are:
1. Map tiles can be saved to allow you to build a World Map based on your travels.
2. More Hot Bars, keyboard shortcuts and UI options
3. Everyone is doing it :P

There are a few different Map Tools available. You only need to choose 1, whichever you think you prefer, to build maps from the stored tiles (you also need to be sure to select the Save Map Tiles option in either of the Custom Clients).

I have only used Salem Map Tool by dymm (at the old Paradox Forums for Salem) but there are others with more features. Check out the Artiface & Arcana forum for more discussion.
