I just downloaded the game, i tried to let it start, it looked good, i was still in the old world and it suddently crashed. I restarted and it crashed again. It keeps crashing after some seconds, is it because my poor computer does only have 1 gb ram?

It just might help if you describe in what manner it "crashed" and with what error message, if any. :)

Have you updated your Java, Browser , video card up to date?
Are you on a special client? dont use the vanilla client - try ===> https://github.com/EnderWiggin/salem-updater/releases/
Make a folder for the updater , keep it neat, delete and reinstall salem from the /user/ folder on your HD - complete wipe , your stats are saved serverside
What worked for me was deleting glugen.jar , it was crashing me after i used updater.jar
Set graphics down if you can ingame , alt ctrl delete and use task manager and give high priority to Java / Salem

Let me know whats up

1GB of RAM will ultimately be at issue.

There are memory leaks through the game (Windmills, trees that give off leaves, basically any animation that isn't static is a potential leak)

If 1GB of ram is all you have- quit and go play something else... mine craft maybe... or some other POS game...

Sure you can struggle on; but you will always be prey for others and you will never know any achievement or success.

When you have 8-16GB of memory... check us out again.

Facts of life.

I'm going to guess you have some of those really old Intel GPUs, like a GMA915 or 945 or so. That is your problem, rather than 1 GB RAM.

The game is designed so that it should work on those GPUs, so that it's crashing for you is technically a bug that should be fixed. However, since I don't have any hardware of that kind to test on, I don't see a way to track the actual problem down and fix it. You could try upgrading your drivers and see if that fixes the problem.

This is not true.

Whether it's reasonable to try and play the game with 1 GB RAM is a good question, but I don't think it's completely outside the realm of the possible. I guess it depends on your OS, of course; if you're using anything newer than Windows XP, the OS itself is going to use all that RAM and leave nothing for the game. ;)

Either way, it would have to go extremely far before a lack of RAM would cause the game to actually crash. More likely, it would simply cause really bad performance due to VM thrashing.

I have an old AMD Athlon 64 here with 1GB RAM and an nVidia geForce 5200 256MB GPU that ran same just fine, so the ram isn't a problem.

There is some specific information in the Bugs & Technicalities forum about the error you're having. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8289
