New Player Interested in Salem

Postby Cooldawg74 » Fri Jun 13, 2014 12:44 am

Hello Forum-dwellers,

I played Salem quite a few years ago, only for a bit until later finding Haven and Hearth. I then played H&H for a long time with about 7 IRL friends and really enjoyed myself. It wasn't until a bit later I noticed Salem and H&H were made both by Seatribe and had similar gameplay.

I continued playing H&H however because Salem had some sort of silver-pay2win system, so I had no interest in getting into Salem, as I didn't wanna slide my creditcard whenever someone beats me. Recently however I noticed a thread from a while back stating "Paradox interactive drops salem" and that brought me to this forum to ask:

Was Paradox the one trying to turn this game into a cash cow? And was the silver system removed? -Or is it still crappy pay2win and no sense giving it a shot?

Thanks

i dont really see the pay 2 win situation

there are adventurer packs i haven't bought, im guessing its just clothes and perhaps a weapon , but realistically its not that much of an advantage, you can make silver by selling to the stalls and using the silver to get otherwise hard to acquire items and any skills and levels have to still be acquire legitimately

i liked HnH's graphics , and the game play is almost identical but slightly worse than Salem, it is an updated engine after all with more than half the promised features in development still where as HnH hasn't received a notable update in a long time i believe.

HnH has a bigger playerbase for a reason i cant figure out, im guessing some enjoy the art style , some are threatened by the pay2win silver in Salem but it really does not seem that way to me, anything you need to live off the land you have to craft yourself. The only cashcow i see is having to pay a decent amount of silver for land and town rights but that is beyond end game at that point

Anyhow basically i died in HnH over a wall archer shot and came to Salem, it lags less, its smooth and has HUGE room for development the only shame is it has 50-70avg players compared to hnh's 150-300 - honestly if more people just came to salem it would be best - world got wiped in February i think so there is a lot of up and coming tribe wars soon

The paradox shop has gone away but there will likely be a new shop.
Salem is not really pay to win though, the cash shop didn't really have any effect on the end game. Its mostly just to give new players a boost in their first weeks.

Best item you could buy was a town bell, or the silver to buy the bell, if you can kick my ass with a town bell and a redcoats hat, then sure, pay to win... Try looking in the store next time

Thank you for your renewed interest in Salem. There are many changes slated for the future. It is not our intention to implement pay2win purchases, however, we are currently defining Pay2Win as items that will DIRECTLY (not indirectly) influence the course of combat, or PVP confrontation. Nice things, or increased wealth we do not consider winning, and as such, will most likely find a home on the future store.
