Newbie questions, mainly gluttony

Hello all, I've been playing for a few days now learning the game. However no matter how many times I read the gluttony faq I still can't grasp it.

Seems everytime I go gluttony, I only gain maybe 3-4 levels total, is this normal? I've tried mixing it up eating variety of items like rabbit, fish, crickets, berries etc. Now I'm only at 12-13 for all humours. Any tips?

Also is there a way to track critters like crickets? Trying to save up for a plot.

Lastly any extra tips for someone completely new would be nice.

Thanks! See ya all in game

Yeah you're doing fine. Once you have access to farmed ingredients, it opens up new varieties of foods which allow you to glutton without diminished returns.

One tip is to keep your stats close to each other. This is because the total gluttony value needed to level up a stat is equal to the value of your highest stat. Avoid the following example. Suppose you have 5 blood, 5 phlegm, 5 yellow bile, and 25 black bile. In order to get blood to level 6, you need to glutton it to the value of 25 (which means lots of food required). This goes for each of the other stats, and goes for every level until a new max stat is reached.

On the other hand if you keep your stats close, you will only ever need to exceed the stat's level in value by a few.

No, you can't track animals from long distance I believe.

As for gluttony, yea it's fairly slow. I would recommend starting with 3 characters early on, possibly more if you feel like spending a lot of time. Build 1 character as a cook/farmer with all the related food & farming skills.
Build one as a carpenter, up hammer & nail (will come in handy) and unlock as many structures on it as possible.
Lastly, build one as a hunter, focus on combat skills.

Especially early on you will find yourself constantly strained for inspiration, having 3 characters alleviates this a bit, though it does burden you for more food. But with the gluttony timers that shouldn't be too hard.
It also helps if you get murdered, at least 2/3rd of your chars and development so far (At least, if you play smartly) will be alive still.

This is just my recommendation, others may have better suggestions on the division of skills for your chars.
