Which is better in terms of finding more items, Forage or Wander?

Do carts work like Canoe/Sled where it is on the backpack slot of inventory that nobody can take it from you even though it shows you pulling? Or can it be taken by anyone even when you are pulling it

Foraging is best.

If you are "pulling" a cart, no one can take it from you.

This is not correct. One can jump between you and your cart then "pull" is deactivated and the other could steal the cart.
