When I try to memorize peoples names it shows up as ??? no matter who I try it on. Same thing in chat as well, I cant' see who is talking as their name shows up as ???.

You have to gives them a particular name yourself. It's ??? by default.

Yea after you memorise someone you can request to add them to kin, then their display name will replace the ???

Otherwise Like Pjotr84 said, you can memorise them and then give them a name yourself.

In chat however all unknown players will display as ???

Oh, but then how do I know who is talking to me in chat like when I'm in town for example? Seems like unneeded confusion. Because until now I thought "???" was just someones character name who kept spamming chat. The problem is I wanted to trade with someone but I had no idea who that person was, it kinda put me off a bit from playing. I couldn't figure out if I was talking to the person beside me or someone else since only the NPCs have chat bubbles...

It's just logic where players don't know each other so you have to introduce each other or memorize them. Play again. Go to Providence and ask for help from the people.

I was going to go on about how I can't see who's talking to me but seems there was something wrong with my client and I couldn't see the bubbles before. Can you please maybe add option to increase time bubble stays up.

You can memorize everyone and give them names, or just number them. Then you can figure out who said what in town even if you're afk for a minute. In case your client isn't displaying them, you can right click a player and choose "Display" to see or change the name you gave them.

Generally people just ask in general chat and look for the speech bubbles, or PM a particular spot to meet at in town.
