getting raided without a scent?

im rather new to this game (started playing a few weeks ago) and today i got raided the first time
had 4 walls (one wooden/three stone) and three braziers
well - all my gates are gone - my braziers and my items - happens...
but shouldnt there be a scent? could anyone explain me what went wrong?
