Fish trap

Please, newbie question.
How can I place a fish trap? And where? Deep water? But I cannot swimm while carying the trap.

it goes in deep water, just place it on the edge of deep water

Ours are right on the edge of the deep water. Find water that is shallow and walk to the edge and try.
