Awh deadly, did you just ask how random something is? I'm guessing the answer is 'mad' random

I was just asking cos quite a few people will be going in if the map ever gets up, and the last thing I want is to be shoulder to shoulder with them all. What I was asking really is are there several areas that are used, or is it the entire map. Dont think anyone ever spawned near the darkness, or in it.

This is a good question but which we probably will never know the answer too without a look into the coding. You might think its crazy random but that would mean there is the same amount of chance to spawn next to someone as anywhere else so the devs might have had to make it less random in a math sense in order to make it appear more random, if that makes any sense.

It spawns uniformly within a radius interval from Boston; far enough not to be close to Boston, but close enough not to be in uncivilized territory.

Does this also mean you tend to have more people in the same area when spawning by the wilderness guide as they are also spawned using this same principle, because I now have a neighbour very close by and he actually stole much stuff from me!

Just how did you interpret what I wrote in order to draw that conclusion?

Not just from what you wrote. And it is actually a bit of a question tbh. The thing is that I tend to see (especially on the previous servers) leantos quite close together, but not like actually next to eachother as if people would have build them themselves. Just wondering whether there is some logic behind it.

Nah, as I wrote, the spawn is uniformly random. That does mean, of course, that there's also a chance of a spawn being close to someone else; avoiding that would make the spawns less random per se.

As I understand it, it's notoriously difficult to code "random" and most random code is, in truth, "pseudo-random". That is to say not entirely random.

But I'm diverging into philosophy.
