Pumpkin Fields

for the sole purpose of increasing influence- is it necessary to allow a pumpkin/cord field to mature the full 8 days?
asked another way- If I harvest at stage 1... do I only get a portion of the influence invested?

for this purpose, pumpkin tiers as fast as cotton (i.e. 4 days base), but slower than cabbage, cereal or corn (which are 3 days base)
