Chestnuts & Wild Garlic Growing in Side of Ridges

though are foraging, studying, & eating alot of berries & mushrooms for the time being. Thing is, I've noticed on both chars that there are occasionally items such as stray chestnuts, wild garlic, and even berries growing on the side of ridges which cannot be picked. 
Is it a bug or are my chars just needing a more advanced skill to pick these?
