Starting / Clothes

The character-gen process is non-intuitive and kludgey, where it should be easy. If a player is turned off in the first 2 minutes, he is unlikely to recover to explore the game content. The terrible lag that seems to infect every Java game didn't help.

It's pretty hard to tell what your starting character looks like until *after* you start to put on equipment. Why not have the player open the equipment tab first? Or do it automatically. And I only accidentally discovered that I could get different looks for the character by repeatedly switching from male to female and back.

Once I learned "Childish Things" I saw that I had "Survival Skills" available. Except it wasn't available. I wasted some time trying to learn it before giving up in disgust. Why show it?

Once I open the chest, and my clothes are on the ground, can I ever pick them up? Even on my 2nd character, one of the pieces did not reach the figure and landed on the ground. Maybe it's a mouse problem, but it isn't a fun way to start the game. I have to play half-naked or delete the character. Again.

I want to like the game, and I am more persistent than most, so I will try again tomorrow.

I dont mean to sound harsh, but that part is the easiest part of the entire game.

There are starting tutorials to he found on Youtube.

It only gets more complicated if you dont understand the basis mechanics of the game.

It took me two evenings and completely crashing my graphics card after an upgrade went bad to get my computer working with salem.

I also struggled to get my character clothed on the opening screen - but once you figure all that out its fun.

Not sure what help you are looking for here. It takes time to orient yourself to any game. It's not exactly intuitive but dems the breaks.

I don't want to sound harsh either, but you should read the comments and answer the questions I wrote, rather than the ones you *want* to answer. I didn't say it is too hard. I seriously doubt that Salem is harder than EVE, Ryzom, Vanguard or UWO. I was pointing out some ways to make the intro easier for new players. The only question was whether I can pick up stuff that is dropped on the ground.

Suggestions go in Ideas & Innovations not help. You will get unhelpful responses if you post thing in the wrong section.

There are people shouting how to do things, and a window in the bottom right holding your hand through the whole process. H&H's character creation was basically the same minus the hair cutting, and without the whole hand-holding. If you can't figure out how to make a character, you literally fail at life.

Exactly.

I see no reason why one would not try all 3 his main mouse buttons to try & pick something up from the ground.

Successful troll or really sad case !
