Claimed abandoned claim, but not really?

So after wandering the wilderness, I stumbled across an abandoned claim. Needing a newbie-base, I clicked on the lean-to and made it my homestead. Then I went about earning coin to try and convert my find into an actual claim. When I clicked on the "show personal claims" button, I realized that by taking over the lean-to, the entire claim was now mine. But when I try to do things like add upkeep money to the stone, or grant access to the claim to friends, nothing happens. I can't even click on the claimstone and get any response. Does this mean the claim isn't actually mine, despite what the map says? I found a fair amount of info on the forums on how to interact with my claim/claimstone, but none of it is actually working.

Is it blue colored? If so, it seems like a bug.

D'oh! Nope, everything is red, but I am still able to access everything on the claim. It didn't occur to me that showing personal claim would show other claims as well. Although if the land still had an active claim on it, shouldn't that have prevented me from making the lean-to on the claim my homestead?

It looks like the claimstone has run out of upkeep/money. You should now be able to destroy it and build your own claimstone on top of it.

Ah, okay! Thank you. Can anyone point me to the right forum for information on how to expediently destroy a claimstone?

Oh.. never mind. That was disturbingly easy.

i recommend you to set up a basic fence as soon as you got your claimstone up. Usually abandoned claims are well known by neighbours/scouting parties for items to take away. A new fence is a signal that there is a new owner around.
