Question about game direction and space

Postby Kdense » Thu Jul 11, 2013 3:48 pm

I'm wondering why in this game it seems really outrageously inefficient when it comes to space. What do I mean? Well a) bags are small and items don't stack (but I can deal with that) however my newest thing is this... the new stupid mushroom thing literally causes me to have to buy up a bunch of new land just to build like 10 fireplaces so that I can be running 10 copper pots of mushrooms at a time just to detox them to bake them. Why would a huge old time style copper pot only hold 4 mushrooms? I mean in reality this isn't even good RP... This is in help because I'm just wondering if there is some game aspect that I'm missing that the devs want each player to have a crazy footprint on the world for simple tasks like boiling water?

Am I missing something?

Why do you have to boil those mushrooms? Poison effect of waxing toadstools is so small...

Because I'm a weak noob. Tried to munch down a million of those pies without boiling and it wasn't pretty.

Overall though mushrooms are the least of it. Just seems like the output rate for materials needed and the amount of time it takes to do stuff requires lots of space. To effectively run things you have to have multiple coal piles burning because it's 3 irl days, multiple fields, multiple smelters, ovens, smokers, pots... Just seems weird that more and more elements continue to come into the game that require more 'stuff' but less space. Even the new having to use a sling shot to just combat requires I now have my slingshot and a few stones taking up space in my bags just walking around. Why wouldn't stones stack? You have a pair of pants with 10 pockets on them and you seriously are telling me that you take the time to place only 1 stone in each pocket? No in real life you'd jam 50 stones in one pocket.

Use a Cauldron to boil mushroom they hold way more.
All the stuff you need to do everything is supposed to encourage you to specialize and work with other people either by working directly with them or through trading.
The problem is there is only one size of stone in the game, when you pick up a stone its not necessarily a small sling stone it could be a large stone used to build a Stone Hedge or a smelter.

This is NOT easily accomplished if you don't start playing this game with people. Hard to meet people in the game in my opinion. I usually see another red dot on my map and shout out "Friendly?!" as I'm running full speed away. Not knowing if that scary person approaching you is going to end your life in Salem or wanna chat is one of my biggest complaints in this game. I'm all for the pvp, raiding, whatever... but I do wish there was a better social aspect to this game so that trading and collaboration was an easier task and didn't require you to put your life and everything else on the line.

Running from red dots should not keep you from trading since it typically done in the Capital. Also there is an entire section of the forums from finding people to play with.

Most mushrooms aren't even't poisonous at all, only witch's hats and waning toadstools are worth boiling and those are uncommon. Your problem is probably, that you cannot reliably identify waning from waxing toadstools. I've never needed more than 1 copper pot, but yeah, cauldrons can cook 25 mushrooms at a time. They're expensive though and otherwise completely useless.
