I was considering making a base in the darkness, not very deep or anything, but i've noticed that foragables decrease in the darkness. if i built a church, would foraged items spawn normally in its area of effect?

Yes, I believe so.

It seems the Church's area of influence not only removes the darkness drain, but changes the spawn of animals / foragables to that of a non-darkness area. I know at least Argopelters, which only spawn in the darkness, will no longer spawn in the Church's area of influence.

ima gonna hijack this and ask a few questions myself
ive been exploring the darkeness with my alt cause i want to move my CC there, so as far as i know when i click ctr + d it shows the lvl of dark. ive seen that d go to the 20ish, would that be a good place to base making it hard for ppl to raid? also i want to know if glutony there would be a problem cause the tick is kinda hard and if so is there a way to avoid the tick without building a church(i want to make an argo farm), also does the dark tick while inside a house. i think thats it

It is slightly more difficult to raid a place in the deep darkness than in the light, but not substantially so, and I would not rely on this solely as a defense.

You will not be able to gluttony in your base without a church.

The darkness drain will tick while you are inside a house (or other structure)
