Earthworms eat which plants?
What to eat after 1%?
Purity should put the number of plants?
Why some earthworms has been 0% and do not eat plants?
Why earthworms to 1% for the upgrading does not go up?
I've put around plants placed into earthworms. And each took over 12 hours to reset a bag of earthworms.

let's see, technically earthworms should eat anything that classifies as "Any plant" in recipes which have that as an ingredient.

http://salemwiki.info/index.php/Any_Plant Should have a complete list, so check that out.
You need to look at the elemental composition of the worms and the plants you feed them, just feeding them 3-4% food won't matter much if it's all of different elemental composition. Purity increases when one element gains more and more value than the others, so you need to pick an element, find plants with that element and keep feeding the worm plants with a higher value of that element than it already has. For example say you find autumn grass with 20/20/20/40 composition and put it next to a 25/25/25/25 worm inside a box/chest. 12 hours later the worm will eat the plant and its elemental composition will become 24.5/24.5/24.5/26.5 and the more you increase that lead value the sooner your worm will reach the various percentages of purity. Remember that you need to place food adjacent to the worms, left, right, above or below them.

hunt around your base, dont be afraid to go for up to an hour walk if you are really struggling, you will find 6-7% grass somewhere.. I find this best to collect an inventory full of, and then feed them.. you should easily get them to 3%.

they produce SLIGHTY better humus

slightly better humus, pretty much no difference without pure boards: I had some 100% worms from pre-purity patch, and getting 100% worm efficiency with 0% boards resulted in the stunning purity of 0%! The humus was like 28/24/24/24...
I have neither the crayons nor the time to explain it to you.

It appears that the "Gain" between items like Boards and Worms is inversely proportional to the span between the two components at work.

OR, is it possible you only have 1 100% worm in that bin?
The addition to the element from the worm is defined by the difference between the boards and the worms and multiplied by efficiency.. so if you only have 1 worm (what 15% efficient) your addition to the humus would be 15% of whatever the weighting is.. fill your effieciency with unpure worms and you get the averaged value taken for the addition. i.e. 5 worms 1 at 100, Av = 40 then the addition would be weighted from that 15 rather than 11 (15% of 75)
