Some Questions

Heya,it is me again...
I just have some simple questions and I hope you can answer them all or most of them:
1) I was offline the night and after I returned my Homestead was gone...
Like somebody destroyed it or something. So I just wanted to ask,is my homestead
"free" (not claimed anymore) when I log off?
2) Is it possible that somebody destroys my homestead then?
3) Can I secure my homestead?
4) Where should I build a nice and secure homestead,after I got the "Settling"-Skill?
EDIT:
5) Is this game going to survive? Has it enough users who play it?
6) Do built houses and such things disappear when you die?
7) Is there a way to play this game "the right way" ? I think,I miss something
while wandering around and searching materials to craft and study.
Thanks for the answers, maybe I add some more questions later.

What exactly was your homestead, just a leanto?

toggle tracking and check for scents around where your leanto was. If you can't find any it might have just decayed.

Yeah, found the place where my leanto was already and it wasn't there anymore. My baskets and crates were there though.

In regards to your later questions:
Read Sevenless' guide on the best places to settle (stickied in the Help forum)
There seem to be plenty of people playing accross the various servers, populations may seem low because there is a huge world.
Most built structures are permanent. The only way to remove them is for them to be destroyed (this can happen regardless of whether the player is alive or dead)
If you're struggling, read the forums and wiki to figure it all out. Find the parts of the game you enjoy and work out how to build your character around those aspects of the game. For example If you enjoy farming, research the farming skills, build yourself up a farm and master the art of agriculture.

Actually, all structures should decay over time if there isn't an active claim over them. It can be a personal or town claim. Some structures will break within a couple of weeks, others may take several months. (Mine entrances are the only exception to this rule that I'm aware of.)

"free" (not claimed anymore) when I log off? - No, someone just smashed it
2) Is it possible that somebody destroys my homestead then? - Yep
3) Can I secure my homestead? - Walls
4) Where should I build a nice and secure homestead, after I got the "Settling"-Skill? - Wherever you do settle, I advise inbetween a forest and prarie. Prarie for autumn grass, forest for forageables.
EDIT:
5) Is this game going to survive? Has it enough users who play it? - I wouldn't bet on it
6) Do built houses and such things disappear when you die? No, you can inherit your claim. Things off of claims will decay overtime, and eventually be destroyed over the course of maybe a month. Claims decay if their silver amount hits 0
7) Is there a way to play this game "the right way" ? I think,I miss something - Get a hay bot, farm a *****, and only go outside when you outnumber the enemy 3:1, like the champs.
