Is kining a stranger risky?
Also is is risky to go to town with a main, because I've heard they(bad ppl) can put on tracking, tele home and find your homestead?

Not tracking. It's a trick with the r-click menu. They can use the follow command to start walking towards your home.

Kinned people know when you're online.

Porting to town with a main just means the main can be memorized, and then "followed" home by a couple people in different map locations when you port, allowing them to triangulate your HS. You can avoid the tracking by walking into a building before you port home.

No, it has nothing to do with tracking, but rather with the follow command. It's been used to triangulate a player's position when porting back home. As for kinning people, it's not risky in the sense that it can be used to find your base or anything, but if they randomly stumble upon it and try to walk on, for instance, the game will tell them the base belongs to you, because they have you kinned.

There really isn't any extra danger here with kinning. Anyone can also memorize your character if they happen to see it, and stumble on your base and know who it belongs to. Or, they can stumble on your base in the wilderness, memorize that, and see you in boston under that name.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. Didn't think of that just now.

I offered kinship to a KO'd dude on my claim today. Is that dangerous?

You can de-kin someone after kinning them so they don't see your online status.

The dangers of adding people to kin are this person now has the ability to describe you to other players and add you to their buddy list without you being present.

You can however use this to your advantage with some counter-espionage tactics with the recently implemented Presentation Name.

Set your name to some other known person and then kin them. They will then know you as this false name. The jig is up though IF you have a personal claim stone and they memorize owner (which will show up as your false presentation name)
