check out the research being done.. The elements fo the worms and pythons will increase/decrease by 10% of the difference between the food stuff and the worm.. i.e. if you feed a 25/25/25/25 worm with 30/20/25/25 food the worm/python would become 25.5/24.5/25/25 .. As the difference is 5 for salt and mercury, and 10% of 5 is 0.5

so yes this will take some time to get that 1%.. less time if you can find good food, and the better that food is the higher the increase.

Nothing to be fixed here, just read the forum.

BTW we should probably update the wiki to avoid this kind of complain.

I am really really starting to think that Jorbtar need to remove the purity % modifier altogether from the UI, and make you have to do some ritual to see it, that involves demonstrating that you understand how the purity % and purity multiplier are calculated :P Too many people are used to gaining purity in increments of a percent or two, rather than actually looking at the alchemical composition. They should rename the alchemy table, call it "statistical table" since everyone's working with percentages :P
Exactly 6.022 x 10^23 worth of Lach molecules.
