Purity woes, a noob's QQ thread on alchemy.

Postby Avarice » Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:52 am

So yesterday I grinded out iron non stop to afford all the oiled boards and glass to make a complete alchemy set.

Today I log in to play around with my new toys and start popping some 0% salt humus into the cooker and randomizer.

After a few minutes the cooker tells me the items are "a bit unstable" and "somewhat unstable" I leave them in there until they increase a ridiculously small amount..something like 0.1%, then I switch them from the cooker to the device that decreases purity and increases stability.

I also then swap the humus from the randomizer to the cooker and plan on rinse repeating this process hoping to get some type of gain.

I go foraging for an hour or so and come back and hear "pop" "bang".

Both the cooker and purity decreaser exploded on me.

The entire day before was a waste as I have now lost half of what I worked for.

I'm mildly upset about the loss and more upset that the items that made the destruction were "a bit" and "somewhat" unstable, and I'd really love to know how the alchemy item that decreases purity and increases stability went pop..

All in all I gather that using this stuff is for people with tons of money and free time to constantly check it's progress each time something raises 0.1% and do this for the rest of their life until they get a whopping 1% increase in purity.

Any advice, or help concerning this tragedy is welcome.

All I wanted to do was get a few pieces of 1% humus to plop in some gardening pots and it seems that's not even possible, even my worms which have been feeding nonstop on 5% pure food haven't increased in purity beyond a few decimal places.

Totally lost on what almighty Loftar expects noobs like me to do with this stuff. Everything starts at 0-10% purity and raising any of it seems impossible with any of the methods available.

The fact that the test tubes explode is useful information, sorry you had to suffer in the pursuit of research of all the changes. I think most of us are pretty much in the dark about them too

These things are really too expensive for us to test out the actual chances of them going pop at any given instability change. This is one of the many times where some numbers from Jorb and Loftar would help people either report bugs if the items are misbehaving or know what not to do if that's how they'll keep on behaving. Sorry to hear about your loss of effort, I wasn't willing to buy these things even when I was under the impression that they weren't so flimsy, but now that I see they are, I guess I won't be playing with such things until I have some sort of magical empire of silver xD

What I want to see added is a progress bar towards purity/elements raising/lowering while in the alchemy set, along with a red bar that raises/lowers depending on current chance of disaster.

As it is now, it's near impossible to check progress on items without writing down all the numbers, since I don't have autism, this isn't fun for me to do.

QQ continued...

The stupid test message about "somewhat, mildly, a bit, etc. unstable" doesn't cut it either. This appears almost immediately while cooking before any progress has been made and seems random. Items that are 25/25/25/25 can be unstable, so what this stability is based on is a mystery if it's not the elemental composition of the item itself.

The developers know how the systems work, yet don't share the details. Dedicated players put in all the time and silver to figure it out, and some nice people months from now may update the wiki and let the rest of us know. This isn't a user friendly process for anyone involved.

Even the devs will suffer not getting accurate feedback for months on systems they create, while rolling their eyes and trolling us in the meantime when we blurt out false assumptions.

They said they wanted to decrease grind where it exists, and made it stupid easy for me and my alts to level now, but want me to sit and stare at 4 rows of numbers all day until one of them changes?

Their logic is mind boggling.

The ability to make our own glass would of been key to making this much more bearable. Though I still think I would be ignoring the purity system as I currently am. I do not want to look at rows of tiny numbers all day in hopes that they increase .0001% after I dropped hours of time and hundreds of silver only to have something explode and have all that time/silver go to waste. So for the time being ill ignore the new changes, progress as far as I can otherwise and hope that maybe the next few patches make the process a bit more fun/reasonable.

This new alchemy set and pressure cooker is a complete waste of resources and time.

I would not spend a second thought on it. I can only hope that jorb and loftar are going over the data on the experienced players trying this crap once and never again and scrapping the last 2 weeks of updates completely.

I found this hilarious!
At the same time I have to give my condolences to your progress and loss of time and silver. It teaches the rest of us not to try this out for the time being.

I think that it is designed with proficiency in mind. It is so weak now becouse it is how it is supposed to work at 5.
