best bait/ fish types?

I ran around for a while trying to make tasty sink knots before I realized I could use worms. But it seems like any item other then the sink knot are one use only. At the same time the sink knot is aweful too, I just sit there and don't catch anything at all and then it breaks.
what things can I use for bait. And how long does each bait last? the wiki doesn't say how many seconds each bait lasts but it seems like they are all different. And does bait continue to break even when a fish is hooked? the wiki kinda explains what fish and baits there are, but not which is best to use or why it takes 5 worms to catch one fish.

Fishing equiPment wear depends on your Frontier and Wilderness level. The higher the level the less wear per tick.

There's a certain spot on plymouth harbour where I could catch cape codfish all day with just one worm each and within 2 actions most of the time.

Learnng how to fish takes time, knowing what you can get in a location and the type of actions fish like. With practice you'll eventually figure out what fish is on the line before you catch it so you can select the options accordingly, for a successful catch!

Oh i thought the actions -1 0 +1 affected what fish it was, not if you caught the fish? I get red fish (snappers?), and today I got a random tiger trout. I was like woah theres more then 2 types of fish?! (i checked and theres a ton) I keep it in a basket because I don't actually have a recipe for trout yet. I usually click the middle option unless I'm leaning too far forward, then I pay attention so i don't loose the fish. and weirdly reel in doesn't always = getting the fish.

Tackle does not wear while fighting the fish, thankfully. Also, tasty sinknots can be pretty good. I caught six fish on one once with only 25 F&W. But now even with 50 F&W I still sometimes don't get a single bite on one.

The actions add +1, 0, or -1. From my experience, the type of fish is determined by the sequence of actions (seems like there was a chart being put together on the wiki). If you know how to work it, you can get a specific type of fish consistently assuming it's available at that spot. Otherwise, you get the "generic" fish for the location. Overall, fishing just isn't worth the effort to learn the system deep enough yet. Dried fish is pretty good for low humors, though.

From what I understood, fish type is determined right from the start, depending on the location and the bait. And each fish has different set of actions that add +1 and requires different amount of points needed for you to succeed while fishing.

Fishing has been harshly critizised by amonst others me for being harder in the game in real life. I guess if you get to know a fishing spot things will be easier.

Also, it's not +1 0 -1. The options are random and so are the fish. It's entirely possible to get all -1 options. It's a tough racket :/.

Fish are semi random. Fishing spot (deep / shallow, sweet / salt water) as well as bait define possible fish types (2-4 different ones I think)
