So...Does digged up dirt ever return to grass/forest form? Just curious if i have to look at poo look alike all around my homestead.

yes but it takes ages

it does, but only when it touches non-dug soil (e.g. the soil type you want to change it into). For this reason, you can prevent this from happening by paving a ring around the dug soil.

Dug soil reverting to other soil happens on decay ticks, apparently, and so can be pretty random

well they should make an item to make it go back to normal, like a fertilizer or and item made form gass and leaves
